Elida pupil faces possible expulsion over plan to kill principal, others

ELIDA – A 13-year-old Elida Middle School pupil is in custody after bringing weapons to school Wednesday with plans to kill the principal and anyone who got in his way, a police chief said Thursday.

American Township Police Chief Matt Redick said the teen, whose name he declined to release, had a knife and a box cutter on him, and two more knives in his locker. The boy walked into the principal's office and told the principal about his plans instead of carrying out the attack, Redick said.

“His plan was to walk into the principal's office, kill the principal and kill the assistant principal, and then he was going to roam the halls and if anybody approached him, he was going to kill them. Then he was going to go into his classroom and go nuts in his classroom,” Redick said.

No one was injured, and the school was not placed on lockdown since the boy was contained in the principal's office until police arrived, Elida schools Superintendent Don Diglia said.

The boy is being held in juvenile detention. The boy, who is a seventh grader at the school with no history of trouble, will be charged with a felony crime, Redick said.

Diglia said he was relieved the incident didn't play out and gave credit to staff members and their relationships with children. That strong relationship may have been just enough for the boy to seek help rather than carry out the attack, Diglia said.

The teen has been suspended from school and could face expulsion, Diglia said.

Elida Middle School has children in fifth through eighth grades.

I'd rather shower at Penn State than root for Michigan.

Unbelievable. Just glad nobody was hurt.

Sounds like a big plea for help. Hopefully the kid gets the help he needs. Glad nobody was injured.
