In a nice way I'm trying to say that all of those teams suck at basketball. Even your Blue Jays suck. My Pirates suck. They all suck.
Ok, I will label it basketball but I must add the word bad in there. So it's bad basketball.
And by the way I could add many more teams to that list. Heck, I should just list the teams who don't suck. It won't take near as long.

So what do you consider "good" basketball? Is there a certain style? Offensive minded? Defensive minded? Fast break? Deliberate? 3-pointers? Pound it into the paint? Why couldn't you call boys games between 1940 and today "basketball'?

And thank you for equating DSJ 8-8 with FJ, 2-13, Continental 1-14, PG 3-11 and VW 4-12.

I'm sorry Bobby. I didn't know you had 8 powerhouse wins. What's the combined record of the teams you beat? Looks like the Bath game went right down to the wire. Free throws must have been the difference.

Bobby, I see the Coldwater game was a nail biter.

Bobby, I see your girls took out Spencerville. That must have thrown a wrench into the rankings.

Say what you want about Ft. Jennings' past and in some of their down years, but the Musketeers have something Ottoville and Continental (as well as Leipsic, Pandora and Grove) do not.

I should have known not to post here, I guess I forgot what some people are like here. And you never did answer these questions: So what do you consider "good" basketball? Is there a certain style? BTW: record of teams we beat: 54-69, skewed by FJ 2-13 and Paulding 4-13. We've beaten five teams .500 or better. Teams that beat us, 86-38 record including Minster, 14-1 Versailles 16-1 Fort Recovery 11-2, Bath 12-4, Coldwater 11-5.

Please don't bring up the Musketeers winless season. Lol.

Falcoln, do you think there's a lot of bad basketball in the area?

Holgate vs. Patrick Henry
Defiance vs. Napoleon
Wauseon vs. Archbold
Ayersville vs. Tinora
Liberty Center vs. Patrick Henry

(6 State Championships among these teams and believe or not Wauseon and Archbold have 0)

Let's be clear, you could say that about any school in the area. They all have down years or stretches because of their size. But there are also years where FJ played some of the best basketball in the area. Let's not generalize a few years to an entire program history.

On the girls side, yes, outside of a handful of teams (5-6 max) the dropoff is severe and alot of the basketball is unwatchable.

On the boys side, I disagree. There are always 1-2 win teams, but this year is very competitive overall. D2 has a good few teams in proportion to how many d2 teams are in Northwest- West Central Ohio. D3 with Archbold, OG, Genoa, Eastwood, Versailles should be interesting come tournament time. d4 the Elida district is competitive as any. So I am not sure how you define "bad" basketball? Games are competitive and scoring has actually increased a bit the past 10 years or so. Some people want to romanticize the past, when in reality, games years ago were not real well- played, foul shooting was worse, turnovers were up and defense was non- existent. These distorted memories of a past that didn't exist make us feel negatively about the present......ask any old timer about the "good old days" compared to the generation before them.

Great point falcon and watch tapes of the good old days if you put your hands on a player you got called for a foul. Now you have to knock a kid to the ground and you may get a foul, or it may be a traveling 50/50 .

If a 1980's basketball game broke out this weekend and the halftime score of your team's game was 45-42 how many would say "Great game!" and how many would say "Can somebody please play defense!!"? I agree that the physicality has changed the nature of the game. The game is different today than it was 20-30 years ago and will likely be different in 10-20 years again.

Only 5-6 girls team? Minster, Versailles, Fort Recovery, Coldwater, Bath, New Bremen. Those are six pretty good teams right there alone.

For Spencerville it has always been Delphos Jefferson BUT over the past 10 years you could make a strong case LCC was one every Ville fan had circled on their calendars.

you are correct, add in OG, Liberty Benton, Leipsic and Ottoville......so i guess it is more than 5 or 6 teams on the girls side. My point was, after the top teams the dropoff is steep and that is why you see so many lopsided scores on the girls side and rarely a true upset. Except for a few outliers, games on the boys side seem to be more competitive and there is a chance .500 level teams can push a top team and maybe spring an upset.

I'll say this, I sit with my old high school coach who coached as recently as 10 yrs ago and in his opinion it is down ... that said, he saw OG vs VW and was really impressed. Compared them to a great team from the 90's ....

In talking to other coaches who have coached a long time and played in a different era's, they all say the fundamentals are lacking and we've lost the role players ... take that fwiw.

FlightCrew, I have some pretty good friends who are officials and they stated the exact same thing you posted.

Falcoln, in dealing with your post about the bad girls basketball I have some pretty good friends who are officials and they stated the exact same thing you posted. Even Bobby's team came up in the conversation.
