With Bluffton, LCC, and Paulding all bringing back talent who do you expect to pull away with the crown next spring? Who are some players to keep your eyes out for?

I don't know about easy. Crestview has a solid team and Overmeyer is a great pitcher. LCC also brings back their first 5 batters in their lineup (Stolly, Kottenbrock, Snider, McCullough, and Tafflinger). Paulding brings back some talent as well with Stoller pitching. Also, Cheney is a great pitcher but his attitude (he quit Legion because of playing time) is not very good. If you ask me Goldsberry has more potential to be a solid college player and will turn out to be the better pitcher of the two. Bluffton is the favorites with a great pitching coming back but it won't be easy.

Just to clear that up, Cheney never quit Legion. As a follower of Ottawa Legion, I was wondering if he did because he was missing a couple of games. When I asked a player, he said that Cheney was at work. He did not quit, as he came for the rest of the season after the absences due to his job.

I have to hand it to the Bluffton guys. They have had, now I think, six or seven years with a new coach each year. They have a group of players that continue to commit to the sport and that is a positive. I think they were runners up two years ago and co-champs last year. I don't know how they keep competeing, but they should be commended. It is the players that seem to be keeping this going. Best of luck in the search!

Why can't Bluffton keep a coach? Why do these guys keep leaving?

2006 Dave Bracy- Forced out.... Players and parents disliked him, went to bored and raised a stink.
2007 Ben Thaxton (Now head coach at Ada)- Great coach, but got a teaching job at ada the following year and decided to save time and money and help with the Bulldog baseball program.
2008 Keith Cosart- Died of a heart attack in the summer.
2009 Jason Selhorst- Another coach that wasn't offered a teaching job, just the coaching job, and found a job elsewhere. Vermillion I believe.
2010 Matt Scholz- Promised a few players he would be back, however pursued a job elsewhere and moved to North Carolina.

As to why Bluffton can't keep a coach... you can decide.

LCC will win conference next year. Goldsberry is their best athlete and player. Mr. Cheney has read too many of his own clippings. He must work and get himself in better shape. Must be cautious of senioritis!! Too much offense with those T Birds.

I also believe cheney reads many of his own clippings..but i still think bluffton will win nwc next year..he may read them, but there is a reason there in there! Also goldsberry..wannamacher..falk..returning. should be interresting though! not sure if them 2 pitchers can do all the work.

From the few games that i watched Jefferson, there pitching was horrible. I did not get to attend a game with Carder pitching however

On paper, it would appear that Bluffton, LCC, and Paulding would be the favorites. Crestview - because of longstanding success - is also always mentioned. As far as Jefferson, I believe they were 9-14 or 9-15 a year ago. The NWC website says 3-6 in the conference. The DJ school website shows the following victories: Delphos St. Johns, Perry, Lima Temple Christian, Ada, Allen East (twice) Lincolnview, Hardin Northern and Wayne Trace. DSJ is a quality win - otherwise, the other victories are not much to note. Given the fact that DJ lost their best two players and their best pitcher, it's easy to see why they should not be mentioned as contenders.

if LCC had one more pitcher that threw 75+, they would run away with conference in my mind. They're pretty good about 1-8, and i only see Bluffton being good 1-6. Paulding lost Riley and i think pretty much everything revolved around him.

What's the timetable for hiring a new coach? Alot of talent back. Any candidates apply yet?

LCC has a pretty good one two punch coming back in Trevor Kottenbrock and Travis Clark. Not sure how hard either of them throw but I think they were around 14-3 combined this summer. Crestview has a pitcher coming back that no hit the Birds this summer which was the only game Clark lost having only given up two runs. So I think it will come down to LCC, Crestview and Bluffton again, who will obviously be good no matter who their coach is.

On a side note, LCC's Michael Snider who had a spectacular summer playing for the LIma Legion has been getting some inquiry's from The Ohio state university or so I have heard.

gumby!! I have soooooo missed hearing from you!!! I'm really hoping to see you make an appearance (or few) in fb though! "'tis the season!!" football.gif biggrin.gif

btw...... Seems a li'l early for 2011 bsball, but, GO AE!!!!
