Since he is thinking of hanging it up, where in history does he stand as far as great coaches? He has always coached the top players in the league with great supporting cast...

You'll be proud of our young people in the classroom, in the community, and most especially in 310 days in Ann Arbor, Michigan on the football field. - Jim Tressel

He always was in great situations to coach. I mean, seriously, how hard was it to coach Jordan and Pippen to championships? Or Shaq and Kobe? I really don't know where to rank him, but he always had the talent, and that certainly never hurt!

All the talent does not always mean 11 rings. One of the best IMO.

If Phil had all the stars ... then Red Auerbach must not have not been a very good coach either, especially given the league only had a small handful of teams. Phil's the man.

Phil Jackson is actually credited with having the know how to handle the games greatest players. When Doug Collins coached Jordan that team was going no where, but when Jackson stepped in he put the pieces of the puzzle together to keep the games greatest player happy. In LA Jackson fed both Kobe and Shaq with all the goodies they craved to keep them happy. That's what Jackson does best. He knows how to feed the superstars which it appears isn't always that easy for a coach to do. Look at Cleveland this past season. When the heated flipped on for the Cavs Brown couldn't find the cord to plug the air conditioning back in, therefore their season fizzled out without much snap, crackle, or pop.
