Last year the Gumshoe NFL Playoff Prognostication staff correctly picked all but one game and told you to take the Cardinals and 7 last year in the SuperBowl. This year while it will be hard to duplicate that kind of success, we have again gathered, analyzed and made sound predictions for this years games, so you can astound your friends and co workers in your playoff pools.

NY Jets @ Cincinnati (-3) The Jets come to Cincinnati this week after soundly beating the Bengals in NYC 37-0 this past weekend. The oddsmakers have made the Bengals a 3 point favorite but generally three points is nothing more than a home field advantage number. The Bengals only played their starters for a little over a half and seemed disinterested in being there by halftime. The Jets, having to win to get in, have the number one defense and the number one running game in the NFL. They also have a rookie QB who will throw INT's as good as Derek Anderson if allowed. The Bengals are not hot going in and will try to load up on the run and force the Jets to throw. In turn the Bengals will have to get something done offensively against the a great Jets D and may be with an injured Ochostinko and a bad hammy. I like the Jets to run the ball and play defense like you need to do in the cold weather and win this game in a low scoring affair. Take the Jets and the 3 points. WINNER

Philadelphia @ Dallas (-4) Dallas beat Philly this weekend 24-0 to win the division and force the Eagles to come back to Dallas this weekend to play again. The Eagles did not look good and this year seem to play really really good or really really bad. If the game was in Philly I would like the Eagles but the game is in Big D in the new stadium with what will be a huge crowd. Dallas has won both matchups this year and while it is hard to expect a team to beat a division rival three times in a season, you better take the Cowboys and give the 4 points and pray Tony Romo doesn't throw up on himself in a big game like he has sometimes done in the past! WINNER

Baltimore @ New England (-3.5) Baltimore won at Oakland to get into the playoffs. New England played for a half and lost to Houston on the road. New England lost star WR Wes Welker with a season ending knee injury, has Tom Brady playing with broken ribs and a broken finger and has oldman Fred Taylor as their starting RB. Baltimore is built for the playoffs and cold weather. Great Defense and great running game. Baltimore ran for almost 200 yards against Oakland and New England gave up over a 100 yards to a rookie Texans RB. I know it is big bad New England but take the Ravens and the 3.5 points. WINNER
Green Bay @ Arizona (-2.5) Green Bay beat Arizona this weekend 33-7 in a game Arizona didn't try too hard to compete in. Green Bay on the other hand is hot, has a good defense, good running game and a very underated QB. Arizona seems to play better on the road than at home, turns the ball over too much and is not sneaking up on teams like they did last year in the playoffs. I like Green Bay in this one and will take them and the points. Loss

While it is only Monday and things can change before the games start this weekend, these are my picks and I sticking with them! Act accordingly!

and just for fun...belichick being belichick...

Yikes. I would not want to be former NFL GM Charley Casserly right now.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick isn’t happy and Casserly, the CBS analyst who reported before Sunday’s game that Tom Brady had three broken ribs, is to blame.

Belichick said Casserly’s report was “100 percent wrong.”

“There’s so much stuff out there that is so inaccurate that it’s comical,” Belichick said on WEEI via the Boston Globe.

“Who’s been wrong more than Casserly? His percentage is like a meteorologist. … He has no relationship with this team, less than zero.

“At least he put his name on it. I’ll put my name on it, too. He’s 100 percent wrong.”

Brady appeared on Friday’s injury report with a rib ailment, but started in the Patriots’ 34-27 loss to the Texans. The Pats’ quarterback reportedly broke his ribs in the preseason, then re-injured them in Week 2. A reported finger injury occurred a month ago.

something a little aggravating.....

Cowboys lose a game beginnig of December, all through December they win, Romo plays good, but they still are questioning them, saying they are done. Now they are kissing there but like they have thought they were great all year...

I was saying this when the playoff pairings were first announced: Baltimore will beat New England. It is going to happen now. Further, Baltimore will (IMO) beat Indianapolis. In fact, I believe Baltimore will represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.

Just putting that out there now.

Well Week One of the Playoffs is in the books and the Gumshoe staff went 3-1. We actually felt like the Packer pick was our best pick but they lose in OT turning the ball over 100 times. Should have been a win but that is pro football for you.

Next week we have Baltimore @ Indy
NYJ @ SD
Arizona @ NO
Dallas @ Minn

When the lines come out we will post our picks and hopefully some of you who didn't listen this week will win some fat cash next week. Depending on how crazy the lines are it looks like a lot of home team winners.

Why are people suprised that the Bengals lost? I mean they were dang close to losing about 4 other games, but freak plays decided the game. They also had to play the Chiefs, the Raiders and some bad teams. I know they lost to the Raiders, but they have the helpless Browns they play, Pittsburgh struggled this year, im not sold on Baltimore. So to me they had an easy road and they still looked terrible many times this year...

The Bengals definitely faded after Chris Henry got hurt. The WR corps outside of Chad wasn't very good, and when you play a team with Revis, you are going to struggle. As my name suggests, I am a Bengals fan, but I actually won some money this weekend from some idiots. They actually gave me 8 points and the Jets.

Round 2 Predictions:

Arizona @ New Orleans (-7) The Cardinals fly into NO after a huge win at home against the Pack. Good Kurt Warner lit up a pretty good Pack defense and they ran the ball and did not turn it over. New Orleans has seemingly slowed down, doesn't have near the D that the Packers employ but get to play in a loud Superdome. The Saints gave up over 300 yards passing to Jason Campbell and the Skins not too long ago and will have trouble stopping the Cardinals offense. Could be a high scoring affair and seven points is too many in this case given what we know. I would take the Cardinals and the seven points. Loser Ughhhhh!

Baltimore @ Indy (-6.5) Baltimore made me look good last week by running the ball down the Pats throats. The Ravens lost at home to the Colts 17-15 earlier in the season and had several chances to win. This logic would make one like their chances this week. Flacco is banged up and will be facing a better pass rush that will try to force the Ravens to throw. The game is at Indy, the Colts are rested and healthy and want to show the world why they would give up on an undefeated season. Take the Colts and give the points. Winner and back on track!

Dallas @ Minnesota (-3) Do not have a good feeling about this game either way. Three point advantage goes to the home team but Minnesota did not finish strong and the Cowboys seem to be peaking. Minnesota secondary is vulnerable and their run game has been average. The Vikings will lean on Brett Favre to win the game. The Cowboys should be able to move the ball and are playing strong defense and getting after the QB. Not sure who wins this game but I will take the Cowboys and the points.

NY Jets @ SD (-7.5) In a nutshell the Jets are loose and playing with house money, while the Chargers face the pressure. Jets have to travel cross country but I think Ryan will have them ready. They have the D and the running game to give teams trouble. I think the Chargers will win but I will take the Jets and all those points.

In regard to the previous post about the Bengals, predicting that loss was easy. The have not had much offense all season and when you put your eggs into the OchoStinko basket you deserve what you get. He is not near as good as he thinks he is and guys like him never back up their mouth when it counts. Change your name back to Johnson, you are nothing more than a #2 wide receiver with no break away speed and bad hands when it counts. Watching you and Braylon drop TD passes in big games continues to confirm what everyone but yourselves know. Sorry I had to vent.

Well the Staff went 2-2 on the weekend running our total to 5-3 on the year, a record we are not proud of but one you should have won some money on. Let us not talk about the games we won this week but the games we lost. Anytime you get 7 plus points in a playoff game, with teams coming off well played games, how can you not take them? Well unless you have inside information that they will not even be showing up the following weekend, you can't. With that being said, Thank You Cardinals and Cowboys for the mighty fine efforts you displayed.

Week 3 Playoff Games are: NY Jets @ Indianapolis (-7.5) You see this spread and in most cases would seem to be a sucker spread to me. But in this case, the Jets have the defense and just enough offense to win. Let me tell you why. The Jets can run the ball and throw it enough to get first downs and control the clock and keep the game low scoring. They have a defense that can take away half the field and the other teams best receiver. The Colts have the worst running game in the league and Addai just doesn't look like the back he used to be. The Colts will obviously throw the ball but Revis will take away Wayne, leaving the Jets to HAVE to defend Dallas Clark. I see this game being very similar to the San Diego game and I will drink the kool-aid and take the Jets and the 7.5 points!

Minnesota @ New Orleans (-4.5) The game is in New Orleans and that is good for the Saints. The Saints got a great game from Reggie Bush for the first time in a longtime. Here is my problem. The Cowboys crushed the Saints in New Orleans a couple of weeks ago and we saw what the Vikings did to the Cowboys. Brett Favre is the man and is on a mission, is playing in his home state basically and the Vikings defense will not allow Bush to be a factor. I cannot again pass up the points, I like the Vikings to win this game and I will take the Vikings and the points!

The Gumshoe staff missed both winners today but covered the spread with Vikings to go to 6-4 for the playoffs. This is why predicting NFL games is so tough, five Minnesota turnovers and lose in OT on a FG. The Colts look tough as the jets missed out in the second half after allowing the Colts to score right before the end of the first half. The Jets still had a chance to cover at the end but a INT sealed the deal.

So the SuperBowl is set with the New Orleans Sainst vs the Indianapolis Colts in Miami. The Colts won their last SuperBowl in Miami vs the Bears and I think they will do it again. The first line that has just come out has the Colts as a four point favorite. Since there are two weeks to go before kickoff I think we shall wait a little while before making our official pick. Right now I will take the Colts and give the four points but maybe not!

The line for the SuperBowl has stayed at Colts plus five for most of the week so I will assume that is where it will stay and stick with it. The Saints have a great QB and a high scoring offense that will put some points on the board. The weather is supposed to be nice Sunday, so look for a relatively high scoring game. With Dwight Freeney limited, the Colts pass rush will suffer and the Saints will try to get after Manning on defense. Can they score enough points?

The Colts defense has played well this year but without Freeney could be in trouble. An interesting thing I heard today was about Qb's playing in their teams offensive schemes. For instance, Joe Montana was the perfect fit in the 49ers west coast offense or Vince Young was a perfect fit in Texas offense in college. The thing about Peyton Manning is that he is the scheme. Another QB can't come in a play for the Colts offense for however long and succeed. Manning is the scheme, he calls the plays and disects the D as the game goes on. The Colts have no running game but Manning just goes to work like a computer. I don't think he can be stopped by the Saints D and unless they knock him out, the Colts will score. Will they score enough?

From a fan standpoint, I would love to see the Saints win but I think Manning will not allow it to happen. I like the Colts to win this game say 31-24 and cover the five point spread. The staff is 6-4 this playoff season after going 10-1 last year, and while a winning record this year is a lock, we don't feel like this is a gimme. The Colts will feel the pressure more than the Saints but how can you go against Peyton Manning, possibly the greatest QB to have ever laced them up.

Another SuperBowl bet out there is who will be shown more during the game, Archie Manning or Kim Kardashian? I say it will be even going to the end with Archie getting the final shot to break the tie. Bet the Colts and Archie and remember where you heard it first.
