Sandusky Perkins Dale Irby too much for the Napoleon Wildcats to handle
By Kevin Garringer

While the final score says Sandusky Perkins Pirates 35 Napoleon Wildcats 11, it was really the Sandusky Perkins "Irby's" that won the game. Senior Dale Irby had a huge night for the Pirates and carried them to an opening round Division III playoff win.

In the first quarter, Napoleon was able to hold Perkins to a three and out on the opening drive of the game. Napoleon then opened the scoring with their first drive by connecting on a Logan Peckinpaugh 31 yard field goal with 7:02 remaining.

On Perkins next possession, they were able to get on the board by going 66 yards in 8 plays for a touchdown. Irby scored on a 24 yard double hand off counter play with 3:28 remaining. The end of the first quarter found the score to be 7 to 3 in favor of the Pirates.

In the second quarter, Napoleon and Perkins would battle with both defenses coming up with big plays. With 3:32 remaining until half, Perkins had the ball on their own 27. Irby would have back to back big plays, a 30 yard reception and a 30 yard run, on the drive to move the ball all the way down to the Napoleon 1. Perkins John Workman would run it in making the score 14 to 3. This would then become the halftime score.

The third quarter started with both teams going three and out. Napoleon would then put together their most impressive drive of the night by going 53 yards in 10 plays for a touchdown. Napoleon senior Bryant Schlade would run it into the end zone from one yard out. Napoleon would then go for two and Blake Dunbar's pass to Anson Lankenau was good to make the score Perkins 14 Napoleon 11.

The momentum seemed to be on the Napoleons side. However, this was short lived. After a short kick off, Perkins started their next drive at their own 43 yard line. Irby took a direct snap and raced 57 yards into the end zone to make the score Perkins 21 Napoleon 11. Perkins never looked back.

Irby's outstanding performance continued on in the 4th quarter. Perkins scored on a 93 yard drive and 29 yard drive. Both drives were aided with big plays by Irby.

Irby ended the game with 230 rushing yards, 83 receiving yards, picked off two interceptions and had a handful of big tackles.
Napoleon ends its season with a 6-5 record. Perkins moves to 11-0 and will face Clyde next Friday night.
