UNOH ACCEPTED INTO WOLVERINE-HOOSIER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

The University of Northwestern Ohio has been granted full membership into the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) beginning with the 2010-11 academic year. The announcement was made by the WHAC Council of Presidents following their voting process.

“To be accepted into a conference of educational institutions with the quality of academics, facilities and athletics that the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference has, the University of Northwestern Ohio is elated to be included,” stated President Dr. Jarvis. “We look forward to being a partner with the other member institutions of the WHAC and the future that we will all build together. “

UNOH, located in Lima, Ohio, resumed athletics in 2007-08 as a four-year program after previously competing at the junior college level. The Racers joined the NAIA and were part of the American Mideast Conference as an associate member during the 2007-08 inaugural seasons. The Racers became full members of the AMC before the 2008-09 season. They will compete in the AMC one final year in 2009-10 before joining the WHAC.

"We feel the movement to the WHAC will enhance our ability in becoming a stable, prominent, and forthcoming NAIA institution due to its strong history along with enabling us to maximize our geographical presence in the tri-state area,” stated UNOH athletic director Chris Adams. “We were thrilled when we received the news that the WHAC had accepted our bid.”

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference currently consists of 8 universities. With UNOH joining the WHAC, the league members will total 9 universities. Current members include seven Michigan schools and one in Indiana. Aquinas College, Cornerstone University, and Davenport University are all located in Grand Rapids, MI. Concordia University is located in Ann Arbor, MI and University of Michigan-Dearborn is located in Dearborn, MI. Madonna University is located in Livonia, MI and Siena Heights is in Adrian, MI. The lone Indiana school and closest opponent for UNOH is Indiana Tech University in Fort Wayne, IN.

The Racers currently field men’s programs in basketball, golf, and tennis. They have women’s teams in those same three sports as well as volleyball. The Racers Inaugural Season of Baseball will begin with play in the WHAC in 2010-11.
