Just so no one has to keep scrolling through the 5 pages on the Coach Cavinee resigns thread about Hardin Northern, I decided to start a new one. Cropduster posted today that with the potential hire it looks like the Polar Bears may not be playing football in 2012. I am interested in hearing more about this topic as time reveals more information and speculation.

Why won't they be playing because of the hire? Or did I misinterpret that?

Coach Obenour has been on staff at Hardin Northern for about 20 years. He coached at the J.H. level until 2008 when he moved up and began coaching varsity under head coach Pete Brunow and Shane Cavinee. Coach Obenour always had great success at the J.H. level when he coached at that level.

What did he ever do to you crop? I always thought Oby was a good guy. Thought most of the kids liked him as well and played hard for him. I must have missed something, or have been gone to long

nothing just echoing what i've been hearing...just think it should've been given to someone outside the program, and believe there's a conflict of interest.

If Obenour is the new coach, things look bleak for HN football. It all starts with respect between players and coaches. They have been walking on Oby and the past staff for the past few years since he became a varsity football assistant. Nothing against Oby, but got to agree with duster. New coach should have been from outside the system, {area}.

What do you mean "looking" bleak? It's already there, as evidenced by the big community meeting they had a while back. From what I was told, they did offer the job to someone outside the community/area and that person turned it down due to no teaching position. It's easy to critcize hiring Obenour, but the fact is he took the position when no one else would.

should have said continue to look bleak. Just afraid hiring from past asst. coaches means the end of HN football. Guess we wait and see if they can get enough for a jv schedule. Cant believe out of the 13-20? applications there was not 1 candidate outside the system that wanted the job.

hate to tell you snoop but I do believe the boys the past few years had a lot of respect for the coaches and they did NOT walk all over the coaching staff. Also without a teaching job its difficult to bring someone in from outside the community. 3rd, Obenour told them he would do it if there is absolutely nobody else for the job.
There is much more wrong at HN than coaches. Just go to a track meet and hear them begging parents to get involved with the boosters. . . At one time parents were glad to help. Now they want nothing to do with it except for a few dedicated ones. There are 4-5 previous football coaches still in the building, 3 with state championship rings. Wonder why they don't coach anymore? Maybe one reason is lack of commitment, and work ethic.

When players dont practice all week and suddenly on friday night they are ready to play, thats walking over coaches. Coach should tell them you dont practice all week then you sit friday night also. I agree the attitude of the kids has been poor, thats why in my opinon they needed new blood to head the football program. Need new direction. Only 3 coaches in school with rings. Pete, Dennis, Cano. They had a great run. Now they have other commitments. Like I said we will have to wait and see what we get out for football. Hopefully 35 kids, but I just dont see it happening.

Well when doctors and trainers say rest is only way to heal an injury and you only have 21 kids and the kid is your best athlete I guess coaches have to do what's necessary to field the best team possible. Thats not players walking all over coaches. You obviously have no clue of the situation. Like I said 3 previous coaches have rings and 2 other coaches in house make 5. There is a reason why they don't coach anymore.

I do agree that someone from outside the program should be hired. However it doesn't look like its going to happen. No teaching jobs makes it hard
