Unfortunately, Riverdale's starting keeper from last year is not out due to a bad knee. The keeper that played for us was in her first EVER soccer game...then to have to play goalie...then to have to face L-B...
...need I say more?

Anyways...I'm not crying about it, just giving some info. I am sure that the outcome would have still been in L-B's favor, just maybe not as lopsided.

L-B looks to be a power in girls soccer, basketball, track, etc. this year. Good luck to them.

As far as Riverdale girls soccer...keep your heads up girls! Having a new coach and depleted numbers are things that you are forced to deal with at this moment. Just keep working and don't let these issues drag your season or the program down. Having a new coach may not be the worst thing ever...give him a chance to show his style will be effective.

Ok I told myself I was going to stay out of this form but lets get some facts straight here...

I came into a program where there was no discipline and the girls did what ever they wanted and were babied and praised even when they did bad...

I met with the girls 5 months in advance before the season started.. I gave them requirements because I did not want them coming into preseason out of shape and did not want to spend most of preseason conditioning.. when I should be teaching the game...

21 girls showed up to the meeting.. I told the girls that it was going to be a lot stricter and hard then last season because I believe that there was a lot of potential in the girls that has not been brought out yet...

Going into this summer 3 girls had to stop playing because the doctor told them that their bodies could not handle it anymore..

Two girls where on the varsity cheer leading team... My two a days were from 9- 11:30 and from 1:30- 4... The cheer leading coach was going to make them practice from 11:30- 1 and give them a half hour break.. so they choose the easy way out and cheered..

If friends quit there will be followers...

So we went all preseason with 13 girls.. I'd rather have 13 girls that work their butts off for me than 21 girls that only half will...

We just got two more girls that joined the team so we are up to 15...

Its hard to light a fire when it has never been lite before....

I'm teaching my girls the game of soccer.. the way it should be.. that it takes hard work, dedication, and passion to enjoy the sport..

I don't baby them or praise them.. when they do something that is expected out of them or when they miss or do something bad...

They are soccer players and I will treat them as soccer players...

The girls have gone through a lot just this summer.. new coach.. new style.. friends giving up on them.. some of their own community not believing in them.. thats a lot to handle...

In the LB game Coach LaRocco took some of his first team out in the second half when they were up 7-1 and then we started to come alive and make things happen and scare him a little... He put the rest of his first team back in with 3 minutes.. for what? they were already up 7-2.. what was the point he was trying to make by scoring another goal before the game ended? That was a bunch of crap if you ask me...

Our loss to LB will not reflect the rest of our season... They had the toughest opener probably in the D2 girls in Ohio... They are much better then what they showed that day..

Don't Count us out yet.. the season has just begun.. I believe in my girls

Good job and good luck to the lady eagles

Is this a joke? Are we supposed to believe a highschool coach would get on the rocket corner and make lame excuses for his team?? Tell me it aint so...

Warrior,

You may need to get some bigger tools like flame throwers to get the girls fired up....Just joking a little but when Coach Larocco put the first team back in with 3 min to play I'm pretty sure he was teaching the second team that they have to be ready mentally to play at all times when called on and I have the strange feeling the second team was not in the game mentally at all. Maybe it was not the right way to handle the situation especially from your view point and I'm pretty sure he was not trying to rack up that eight goal on you but only to teach lessons and as you and I know coaches all have their own way of teaching lessons....Right? coffee.gif

Good luck the rest of the season Coach Warrior and if you need any matches, well just call on the Gracie!!! God Bless!!

Take a chill pill itsallgood and yes it will be "all good".....There's more coaches reading and pecking on this here site than you could imagine.....thats all from Coach GRACIE!! LOL

Warrior-
I'm not sure why you felt the need to state your case, but for whatever reason, you did. I hope that you didn't think my posts were negative toward the Lady Falcon soccer team OR the coach. All I was saying is that after being used to what they had, it is natural for any change that comes along to be kinda hard to just "switch gears" without having some bumps along the way. I think we all realize that the previous coach had been there for awhile. The girls have had winning seasons while he was there. Honestly, I personally had no idea of any discipline that did or did not exist with this team. All I knew is that we seemed to put together decent teams.

The fact that the previous coach is gone and that we have someone new is not too big of a deal to me. The fact that any drastic change (if not done properly) could be detrimental to a program, could become a big deal. Our girls soccer team has had no problems fielding teams in the past. It would be sad if that became an issue for Riverdale. I know that the intentions of the new coach would be to have these girls be the best they can be...and to produce winning teams. Nothing wrong with that. It's just the way that the situation was approached makes me wonder if maybe, just maybe, it was a bit too much too soon.

My comments directed toward the girls on this team are that they should stick with it and give the new coach the chance to show that his style can show results. I am not asking for mutiny...not at all. I do not like hearing of any kids abandoning a sport that they enjoy, nor do I neccessarily think that it is better to say "I'd rather have 13 girls that work their butts off for me than 21 girls that only half will... " That approach can produce winners, no doubt. It can also turn away some kids that have the potential, but have not found the drive or desire inside themselves to be a difference-maker. I was that type of kid in high school until something as simple as a teammate giving me an encouraging "push" got me more motivated. I was able to make something of myself and contribute heavily to a team that ended up competing in the state cross-country meet.

I say do the best you can do...whether you are a coach, player, water boy, fan, whatever. Success comes from many different directions. Don't think that anything can be accomplished overnight and don't try too hard to MAKE it happen. It may backfire.

In closing (finally), I'd like to say that I wish Riverdale continued success with the girls soccer program. I hope this coach and his players end up having a great season. I hope that any "bumps" will soon be smoothed out. My daughter has played with a group of girls that are currently in JH. They have enjoyed success in every level of competition so far...and NO, they have definately not been babied. They have moved up through the age groups at least a season early at each age bracket, and have even competed in the "boys" division as an all-girls team with little to no substitutes on the team (and did quite well, also). Hopefully their success and interest in the sport can continue. I think that Riverdale's future in girls soccer can certainly be a bright one. Let's let things play out this year and see what happens.

Grace as always your wanting the final word. Again most coaches won't openly come out and defend their choices on a public forum. They choose to get their digs in, in a more secretative fashion.

War: Kinda of a pompous arrogant attitude when people don't post just the way you like! All mixed in with a fake coach spin!!!!!!!!!!!!
War: LB Soccer! Gotta love it ,or if you are from Riverdale, I guess you won't.
