I'm sitting next to some fans from CCA and they said there was an issue with eligibility requirements that came to light after the season had started. After doing a quick search I found that coach Selle stated to cleveland.com sports, "There’s no shortage of kids that want to come to Cornerstone Christian Academy and play basketball." I guess the only issue is are they eligible.

Ineligible players according to STO. Those players are no longer with the the team and why they were ineligible was not reported.

Nice underdog story as Cornerstone beats a school that has twice the enrollment they do. Reminiscent of that gritty team from Cleveland that won the D4 title in 2013. :shrug2:

Lincolnview recruits from Jonestown, Venedocia, Wetzel, and East Middle Point. All huge names and rich in basketball tradition. Cornerstone does it the right way with all home grown athletes. Willoughby, South Euclid, East Cleveland, Euclid, Mentor, Wickliffe, and Willowlake are all legit school districts for Cornerstone.

really sad this is such a common occurrence these days...NW Ohio should have 3 of the past 4 D4 title...Leipsic feels your pain Lincolnview.

On a sidenote...anyone that saw the L'View-JC semifinal surprised at the lack of fans for JC? L'View had literally 3X fans

Just Like Col. Afrocentric in boys and girls a few years ago, no surprise. That is why D-4 schools in NW Ohio have difficulty winning very often. They do not recruit.

They won a state title because they had the best player in d4 in the state and some other pretty talented kids. If you take that player off the team, they are not close to winning a state title. I sat next to a fan from a team in their district this weekend and he did say that kid went to Cornerstone when he was younger. He jokingly said he was hoping the Catholic schools would talk him into transferring.

I know people on this site think Lincolnview was actually the next best team, but Wellington would have also beaten them badly and Lutheran East would have as well if Cornerstone wasn't around. Northwest Ohio wasn't great this year.

Hasn't been for a while in D4.

Heard on the radio the forfeits were due to the eligibility on a home schooled student playing for them. They have only 39 boys in top 3 grades. It's amazing they could go 9 deep with only 39 boys. I'm sure they all grew up in the same neighborhood, if you consider the greater Cleveland area a neighborhood. I often wonder why the competitive balance proposal that was passed by the OHSSA just died before even being implemented.

Why are home schooled kids being allowed to play high school sports.

Cornerstone is this year's version of Harvest Prep.......another private, fly by night type school that recruited from all over yet somehow had a real low enrollment. Harvest Prep was busted numerous times by the OHSAA and is barely on the radar anymore. Cornerstone was founded in 1999 and their head coach doubles as school superintendent....he is probably an AAU coach also.

Harvest Prep is still around. They lost to Cols. Wellington in the districts this season. But you are right. They were on double secret OHSAA probation a few years back.

I heard a RUMOR that CC had two different varsity teams and there's a whole thing that goes with that but again like I said just a rumor.
