So I havn't posted any on the Corner for a while. So I thought I'd start a new topic seeing how I'm in college now. Anybody know anything about ONU track and field? Also, I'm running for the Polar Bears and it's my first year running track ever. What a time to start I know, but anybody got some advice or whatever for me?

I remember going to some of those ONU track meets in school. It was kind of funny because I was faster than most of them at the events I was best at, and I wasn't even the best on my high school team. It kind of set into my head why my brother always called D-III athletics "glorified high school" teams. Mostly just kids that are doing it because they want to, so it's all good. At least it'll keep ya' in shape rather than the shape that the food in the ONU cafeteria would leave you.

I HIGHLY doubt you were faster than most of the athletes running at ONU esp if you from Ada High and esp if you weren't the fastest on your high school team. While d-3 athletics is not "prime time" they still have people running 4:15 miles and 6.46 55m dashes.. if you were faster than that were did you geto scholarships to run at? get a grip on reality pal dry.gif

Didn't go to Ada HS. And I didn't say that I was running faster than the folks that are there now. Nor did I say I was faster than all of them. O'Brian has some crazy distance speed. However, he hasn't been there forever, so you do have to realize that the athletes change and when I got to ONU, I was faster than a lot of them. Flat out, ONU just wasn't that good when I got there. Certain events they were good at, but not the ones that I did best at in HS. My high school was D-1/D-2 size. So...yeah...I've got the grip on reality. Perhaps you need to get a grip on something other than an ego.

Now we can get in a pissing match all you want, but I just feel your claims are a tad redic.. I know Jimmy is fast, I run in the conference as well and have seen him as well as many succesful athletes at Ohio Northern and the division III level. It is not my ego that is an issue, but many student athletes choose D-III institutions in order to gain a (as is claimed) better education. Glorified high school.. come on.

They may choose D-3 for the better education, but in most instances the talent level really isn't that much different than a high school team. There are always going to be D-3 teams in random sports that could go up and beat a D-2 or even D-1 team, but I know sitting there watching track meets because I was dating someone on the team or someone just wanted us to come watch them pole vault or something that a lot of those times and measurements on the field events were outdone by people on my high school team...including me. Now, I will also add that there is a reason that I was asked several times to join the team...I was fast for a chubby white boy who didn't like practicing! So...yeah...I could out perform many of the people on the team. However, they wanted to be on the team and I wanted to do other things, so good for them in doing it. But good for me in doing something else, I guess.
