With the boys and girls high school basketball seasons just recently completed it's probably a good time to take a look in the rearview mirror and see
what we learned. One thing I found out during the last few months is that Columbus Grove is now a basketball school, and DSJ is now a football school rolleyes.gif
Luke Kohls and Reggie McAdams proved their worth and after watching both of them it is very apparent........they can play! I have no idea where these two
gentlemen will end up (yes, I know Reggie is just a junior) but some school is going to be very happy to have them in the fold. Kristin Klausing led her team to
the state tournament for the first time in Delphos Jefferson history and will certainly help the UF Lady Oilers next season. Haley Griffo (Shawnee) was named the
WBL's best and she should also be playing somewhere next year.
The Continental Pirates were a pleasant surprise and I will admit I didn't see this one coming. Conventional wisdom had the CG Bulldogs, Kalida Wildcats, and
McComb Panthers battling it out for the chance to represent NW Ohio in the state tourney but the feisty Pirates proved that it takes more than athletic ability to make a team.
For it to happen in Coach Kevin Homier's last year as coach made for a fairy tale ending. Say what you will about the talent level of the teams in our area and the lack
of players who will be taking it to the next level..........but you can't deny the effort that the boys and girls from the Black Swamp will give their all for their schools.
Much is also mentioned about the coaching wink.gif and there are many who question why some of them are still around, but I also have to throw out some kudos and well-deserved
thanks to the men and women who tirelessly do this job knowing that their job is very much unappreciated by the masses...
We will undoubtedly see some of the area's coaches hanging up their whistles after this season and the speculation on their replacements will be a subject of much interest
here on the RC this spring and summer. And with the end of the basketball season the 'Corner can use all the speculation we can muster to keep our viewers coming back
I was able to take in a couple of days of the state tournament and I believe if you've read any of my posts concerning this, you know how I feel about this whole issue smile.gif
The "state of the game" is in dire need and unless the OHSAA begins to address some of them, you'll be able to count the days until the tournament goes the way of the Picture
tube plant
over in Ottawa.
I want to thank everyone who participated in any of our FREE contests this past winter and over the next few months we'll be thinking of different ways that the RC can
remain relevant in this age of social media. If you ever have an idea on how we can improve our product, please feel free to start a thread or just shoot me an email. To those
of you who frequent the site on a regular basis you'll find that the RC slows down considerably once school lets out for the summer. Never fear though, we'll be back come late
August and will start anew in bringing you the best high school sports.................zoooom
