Holman was at Arcadia (his alma matre) for one year, probably won more games than they have in a season in 20 years. I don't think he was a teacher there though. Remember, these are supplemental contracts. They don't coach for the money.

A friend of mine from Big Green country once said, "when our Board of Education meets it looks like an idiot convention." Whenever I see someone talking about these lovely groups I always think of that.
Aren't these elected positions? What does that say for the voting public?

Yes fortfan, board positions are elected in four year seats, or appointed in two year seats. But here’s the rub, many of those who get on these message boards and slam board members would never, ever, ever, never run for any kind of seat like this. They would never be able to make good decisions in running a school district, in line with the current laws and working with the superintendent and other school administrators.
Now, the next issue is WHO, or WHOM should run for school board seats?? You see, the people that CARE about schools, mainly the parents of the kids involved in school right now, don’t want to get involved because it can be uncomfortable for their kids to have mom or dad on the board. Understand that.
The people who don’t have kids in school many times don’t care about what goes on at the school anymore. So what’s left??
My point is there are A LOT of good people who SHOULD be on school boards and town councils, but they are tired of all the crap they have to deal with.
If your athletic director has parent after parent coming in to complain about a coach, there’s got to be something going on, you can’t just put your head in the sand and pretend like nothing’s going. Likewise, a board may have person after person complaining about how a certain sports program is run. Well, the principal and AD may be just fine with recommending a coach for another year, but it has to be approved by the board. Now, should there have been some discussion a few months before about potential problems??? I’d say yes. Why put yourself as an AD/ Superintendent by just putting a coach up for a contract when you think it may be tabled or not approved? It makes everyone look a little silly. So if you care that much, run for your local, board, otherwise, you really don’t have a leg to stand on.

So the flip side is when you support a coach, please let your AD and superintendent know, in writing. Those folks normally only get the complainers. If they have supporters, it makes it a much more fair discussion.
