Somewhat a sad day for me....My Little League day hero Griffey Jr has announced retirement....Without injuries, probably the best outfielder in the game ever....

You'll be proud of our young people in the classroom, in the community, and most especially in 310 days in Ann Arbor, Michigan on the football field. - Jim Tressel

Sweetest swing there ever was. Imagine what he would have done if he'd lifted a weight or two.

Imagine what he would have done if he could have stayed healthy for the past 10 years.

He always was my favorite player. My best memory ever was seeing him hit a homer in Cleveland last year. I went to the game for free simply to see him play and because it was a free live game. 3rd time I'd seen him play, first time he'd really done much.
A part of my childhood retired today. And my 2 favorite players growing up(Griffey and Craig Biggio) are now both out of the game.

I remember Jr.'s dad on the Big Red Machine. Not as much power or grace-more speed though, and a fine player himself. So much talent in one family. Does anyone know how old Jr's boy Trey is and how he is doing in baseball?

I was at old Tiger Stadium when Junior was in his prime with Seattle. Somebody hit one to deep right center at the 415 sign. Junior fielded the ball off the wall, turned and threw a laser to third. I don't even remember the result of the play. I just remember being in awe of that throw.

great player and like many said hampered by injuries later in his career. i know without a doubt if he stays healthy he is the HR king. that is the part of the game you have to take into exception tho. maybe if he took PED's like others in his generation he would of not got injured as often or recovered faster. glad he didn't as he was pure, especially his swing. thanks for the memories "kid".

Trey's like 15 or 16 and a lot of people seem to think he'll be the first pick in the 2012 draft. So I'd say he's got some of dad's talent. Hopefully he does and he's as classy of a guy.
