Being from Continental -- I have to take the '74 team -- All were 6'2" or taller and all averaged over 10+ points per game for the season.

1. Greg Spitnale
2. Ron Weisenburger
3. Tim Streicher
4. Dave Chivington

Others: Brad Spitnale, Terry Bragg, Ron Winkle

Continental, another school from Northwest Ohio with a great long time coach-Don Huber. Not only has this area produced a lot of great players but think of all the great long time coaches-Etzler, Arnzen, Kortokrax, Seggerson, Von Sossan, , Huber, Heminger, Welch and St Henry's Guilbault, which I know I just misspelled. And I know I probably left of another couple of great ones.

Roger Renz was right before Don Huber. Started the Continental run of good coaches.! LOVED Kortokrax!

I saw all the Continental players mentioned, and all were very good. Mike Schmidt is at the top of my list. He could pass, shoot, drive, defend, and was a fierce competitor. He averaged 32 pts. per game his senior year in 1971.

Was interested to hear from somebody from Lima Senior. Have not seen anything from someone from LCC. Maybe if I bash their coach or say that he might be leaving I will get a response :-) William White was a pretty good football player too I think :-)

William was a better football player than basketball player (pretty good NFL career). But he was a terror on the hoop court. Remember stories of Earle Bruce coming Lima to watch him play against Chris Carter and Middletown.

At WT, Rob Welch was the most decorated with being the division three player of the year in 92-93 i believe.

You could also put Steve Hall, (also an OSU Buckeye), Russell Jewell, Nathan Overmeyer, Aaron Hockenberry...not so sure about pre-consolidation years though...

1.Rob Welch
2.Steve Hall
3.Could be about 5 or 6 different guys depending on the decade you were from

Ron Treece, M. Turner, M Priest, Overmyer, Shepherd, Denning, Clark(from GH), Hockenberry,

#3 might be down to 1 player in about 4 years..

These are my choices for the top three players from each high school in Putnam County since 1965. The success that players had in college was not considered - just their high school careers. CG - Eric Fortman 1986, Kyle Meyer 2006 and Luke Kohls 2011. Continental - Greg Spitnale 1974, Brad Spitnale 1976 and Curtis Brown 2005. FJ - Bill Kramer 1968, Ken VonLehmden 1969 and Kevin Grothause 2000. Kalida - Joe Verhoff 1983, Brian Vorst 1989 and Jordan Basinger 2010. Leipsic - Duane Niese 1975, Tom Brown 1982 and Nick Kreinbrink 1996. MC - Randy Siefker 1992, Mike Otto 1994 and Aaron Lammers 2000. OG -Tom Heckman 1965, Tyson McGlaughlin 2000 and Tim Pollitz 2004. Ottoville- Steve Turnwald 1966, Jerry Hoersten 1968 and Josh Vorst 2006. PG - Roger Hermiller 1971,SteveFenstermaker 1987 and Josh Lee 2010.

As with any listing of top players, it is always subject to debate. As I mentioned earlier, when college careers are not included, several players are excluded. For example, the following were very good high school players, but even better college players: Dan Troyer, Continental - Randy Kortokrax, Kalida - Clair Recker, MC. There are probably more that I'm missing.

Very nice list PC. Yeah when I started this topic I meant based on their high school careers only.

Excellent list. It is spot on for the most part. One corrrection: Bill Kramer graduated in 1970.

I believe we still haven't heard from anyone from LCC and a few other notable schools in this area. I guess they just didn't have many good players over the years, must of been just great coaching. :-)
