You folks have no idea what you are talking about. Most parents at C-R get as far away from coaching and sports in general as they can. Just show up at an athletic booster's meeting if you don't believe this.

You have had several very good coaches in the last 10 years that left the program because of parents. Maybe I should say a few parents!

Are you talking about Josh Meyer, Andy Schafer, or Jason Diller? That would cover the last 11 years.

Thanks Rocketman, but this is the football thread here.......and he mentioned "the program". Let's let him answer.

How are things in Hornet country with the new coach/staff? I haven't heard much from anyone over that way, kind of quiet.

Maybe the parents should be a little more involved then??

I don't know how much parent involvement there is or isn't, but over the last 10-15 years, I've just not seen much talent there. About 5 years ago, they had a pretty decent group of athletes that played football, but not all sports. As I've said on this board and other sports threads, you can't survive in small schools with 1 sport athletes. And your best boy and girl athletes in each class HAVE to play all sports. And not to bang soccer again, but D7 football progams that have varsity soccer at their schools struggle. Just those couple of athletes per class make a difference.

To say the parents stay away from athletics is not accurate at CR. It is one thing to show up to a Booster meeting and another to be an assistant coach from the stands. Believe me I have seen it first hand. I do believe one thing the CR community does want to win, I've seen/heard it but are not willing to go that extra mile to do what it takes to get there. I know athletic kids and numbers help but so does the hard work in the off seasons and the will/attitude to be successful. When it is pounded into kids head that being mediocre is ok and you are better than Johnny is you are a STAR then it's no wonder things don't improve.

I do agree about all the sports at such a small school it is TOUGH. Then it isn't just athletics it is things like Show. Choir that you have to compete with. Tough sledding all the way around. I do agree there has been some good to great coaches at CR but they come to realize, you can't do it on your own. Gotta have kids who wanna compete with ya. That is in football, basketball and all sports. I wish coach Westenbarger the best of luck and also to the CR community.
