I know Wapak has some excellent front line wrestlers in Newman, Hall, and Copeland. I also know that Defiance has some excellent top line wrestlers such as Bowers, Grunden, and Lantow and Seibert. Beyond the top line guys, which team has the best line-up and who wins?

WBL tournament was dominated by Defiance last year, but duals are a different situation. Much like last year when most people went with Wapak until someone knocked them off, I am going with Defiance in a close dual. Don't have a lot of evidence, more of a gut feeling.

Lifetime,
You are missing SQ Ambos in Wapaks lineup. Both Duncan and Plaugher had a good tournament in Dayton, I would look for them to contribute.

Defiance Assaf at 106 and Morris at 220 also had respectable tournaments down in Dayton.

Is there home field advantage in wrestling? If there is then Im going with Wapak. I have looked at the results at the GMVWA and I see Bowers was missing and I saw a couple of Defaults. Would leave me to believe Defiance is not healthy? If Defiance can put a full line up together and they are healthy might be a different result?

Wapak finished 10th as a team at Top Gun this weekend. They had 5 placers. Ambos(145) and Hefner(120) finished 8th, Newman (170) finished 6th, Copeland (132) finished 5th, and Hal(182) finished runner-up.

Defiance, Shawnee & Bath all at Maumee Bay this weekend. All 3 finished in lower 3rd, with Defiance the lowest. Defiance entered 6 kids; heard they are struggling with injury. Looks like Wapakoneta is improving while others are declining.

From WBL website:

WBL Super Tri
Defiance/Elida/Van Wert at Wapakoneta
Wapakoneta 50 Elida 24
Defiance 35 Wapakoneta 33

No individual results. Looks like Defiance/Wapak match was a doozy!

It was a great dual! Both teams fought hard and I'm proud how our kids wrestled.

Yes, Wapak voided 3 weights and Defiance voided 1. However of the 3 voids that Wapak had 1 was to Gage Gruden at 126 (two Jr. high state finalist and 1x champ) and John Seibert at 285. The one at 126 was strategic as Wapak coaches choose to bump away from Gage. John as defending league champ and last years state alternate would have been a heavy favorite if they had sent the athlete they had there earlier in the year.

The one at 220 was a push going into the match. Losing Duncan really hurt Wapak.

Either way, We have the utmost respect for Coach Rostorfer and his staff. He does a great job and runs a terrific program. We look forward to competing against them every year. You know his athletes will be well coached and looking to win. It brings the best in us.

We will see you all Saturday.
