So what makes a good program? I don't think this topic is dependent upon the sport. I think there must be some key components of creating a good sports program that transcend the sport itself, i.e., discipline, respect, parental support

But what do others think??

COACH....you can have all the god-given talent for all of your 5 starters and can win any big games because you have a coach that lets them play for themselves

Commentment by players and coaches. To work hard in the off-season and push yourself harder than the other team.

Stability from the head coach on down. I think success in high school sports is 90% the coach. Look at Kalida they have considerably more league titles than the next closest team. If for the last 25 years they had a new coach every 5-6 years they would probably have 7-8 titles instead of 24. IMO

Also, they need to take the program clear from the Varsity to Jr. Highto Pee-wee.

No doubt it all starts with the coach. If a guy has been at a program for a long time you know he`s going to produce a winner. Look at some of the best coaches in northwest Ohio. Korto, Seggerson, Al Welch and a few others. You look at those coaches and they all have that one thing in common. Great programs......... They may not be in the elite teams each and every year, but they do produce winning seasons just about every season. And they are competitive when their teams take the floor.

Chris is a little bit younger than those other guys Dawger. I guess that`s why I forgot him. Sorry about that. BTW, I`ve been wondering this for some time now. How old is coach Adams anyway?

PCL_guy is really dedicated to his team in case you haven't noticed....
I wanted to have a career in sports when I was young, but I had to give it up. I'm only six feet tall, so I couldn't play basketball. I'm only 190 pounds, so I couldn't play football. And I have 20-20 vision, so I couldn't be a referee. ~Jay Leno

Winning longevity and great tradition are a couple of the most important keys. And that plays hand in hand. If you can continue to have al least moderate success during your least talented years you know that you`ve got yourself a good program. The talent level`s not going to be there every year. If you can continue to keep your head above water you know you`ve got a sailing ship.
