Lets see if we can get some talk going on football. The league seems to be wide open with alot of questions to be answered. Can Wapak fill the spots from graduating one of the best classes they ever had? What will St. Marys do in Frye's 2nd season back in charge? Its cold outside so lets get some fans talking football.

I think I'll watch Coldwater try to defend their baseball state title before I talk much football. Spring and summer are afoot, man!! Baseball, barbecues, sunshine, swimming pools, ice cream...don't rush it!!!

Its never too early to talk football. What big-time players do each team have coming back or coming up? How has off-season weight room attendance been? Any big changes in the offenses or defenses the teams will run? New offensive or defensive coordinators?

You can have baseball would rather watch paint dry. Only thing interesting right now is the nfl combine and the draft coming up. I just saw the first draft guides are coming out.

Elida returns a lot on offense, so they should be able to score points. The big question mark is defense. Since Al Clum retired a few years ago that defense has been awful. Carpenter took over the defensive calls in the middle of last season also switching schemes from a 4-4 to a 3-3-5. Hopefully they can adjust to the new scheme better and sure up the defensive side of the ball, should contend for the playoffs this year.

All I need to say for now is we went 0-10 last year, have a basketball team one win from state, and have one of the best baseball programs in the state.

Call me in late July and I'll worry about football then.

Where are all the WBL guru's? How should the schools line up this year?

I think Kenton and Wapak to battle it out again for first place, with OG looking to break into the top 2. Celina has a very good QB returning in 3 year starter Caleb Hoying. Van Wert is a sleeper. St. mary's should round out the top 6. I think those are the teams that could potentially contend for a spot in the playoffs.

Excited to be calling St. Marys this season, I think they will be pretty decent as they return their 2nd leading rusher in Eric Spicer (800 yards), and QB Dustin Howell.

Plus they start with a Sidney team that Coach Frye hammered by 50 at home to begin his second go round so to speak with the Riders.
Don't find fault, find a remedy.

OG's 2 scrimmages are against some formidable teams.

Sat. 8/15 9:00 AM @ Perrysburg. P'burg went 10-0 last year in D2.

8/21 10:00 @ St. Henry. 6-4 last season in D6

Sources tell me that Coldwater looked rather impressive in their scrimmage vs. Wapak.

Defiance looked solid against Bryan in their first scrimmage on Tuesday. Tackling was better, Gonzalez looked more comfortable in the offense and there was a LOT more enthusiasm around the program. Not saying they're a 10-0 team this year but they won't go winless again.

I think the McComb scrimmage next Thursday will be the real barometer about the team and what they are. Not that they won't learn anything from scrimmaging Lima Senior tomorrow but obviously there's a bit of a gap athletically there.

I was at the Spencerville-Shawnee scrimmage. First I will say that I think We (Spencerville) will be pretty good. As for Shawnee with a new coach, I think are a work in progress. Their Pass D needs work for sure. Good luck to Shawnee this season!

Wapak was much better today in the scrmmage vs Ashland
Still plenty of room for improvement but some strides made since Tuesday
A couple of defensive plays that caught my eye
One play we had 3 players sprint to the ball on a sweep and arrive with a nice collision right at the wide side sideline. A nice play
Another time we had 5-6 players gang tackle on a short little swing pass in the flats
If our defense continues to make those type of plays we will be a stout defense
Fun to watch

Offense continues to grow, some impressive balls by Huffman, particularly , deep balls.
Line play was one of the biggest improvements from last Tuesday
Keep working hard and listen to those coaches and we will be tough again
