The Bryan Golden Bears football team won its first playoff game in school history, defeating Bishop Watterson 41-24 Saturday night at Golden Bear Stadium. With the win, the Bears move to 11-0 on the season and will face Napoleon in the second round.

Bryan took the opening kickoff and put toether a scoring drive to go up 7-0. The drive was capped off with a 4-yard pass from Austin Schimmoeller to Sean Culler. Tory Savage's PAT was good.

The Bears then kicked off onside and recovered. They could do nothing with it, and punted back to Watterson. The Watterson returner muffed the punt and the Bears recovered. Schimmoeller hit Elijah Bogosian for the second score of the night. The PAT was no good, and the Bears led 13-0 before the Eagles even ran a play.

Watterson got on the board in the second quarter with a 12 yard field goal by Michael Harper.

Bryan answered with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Schimmoeller to Daniel Pendergrast. With the PAT, the score was 20-3.

Watterson put together a good drive to finish off the half. Andy Elberson hit Mike Vlahkis with a 5-yard touchdown pass to make the score 20-10. At that point, the momentum was with the Eagles, as they would get the ball to open the second half.

Watterson started the second half with another good drive. Elberson scored on an 11-yard touchdown run and the score was 20-17. The Bears were not able to score at all in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter was another story, however. Schimmoeller started it off with a one-yard touchdown run. Savage's PAT made it 27-17.

Watterson got it back to within 3, as Elberson ran it in from two yards out for the score. The PAT made it 27-24.

Schimmoeller extended the lead to two scores on Bryan's next possession, with a 27-yard touchdown run to make it 34-24 with under

On Watterson's next drive, Dakota McNany stripped the ball from the Watterson rusher, and returned it for a touchdown. The Bears led 41-24 at this point.

Brandon Poncsak sealed the win with an interception on Watterson's last possession.

With the win, the Bears move to 11-0 on the season and will face Napoleon next Saturday night at a location to be determined.
