He's got a LOT of work to do to make the top 10. Hutchins, G. Simpson, X. Simpson, Butler, Joe Fischer, Jim Andrews, etc... There are more names listed above who are WAY above Mathias. And Elida is not just technically not part of Lima, it's factually not part of Lima. Tattoos are not just part of college athletics, they are part of life for kids. The 35 year old police chief of the village I work in is tatted from neck to toe.

I know Elida proper is not part of Lima, I said technically because a large part of Elida school district goes well into Lima....all the way to Robb Ave., past the LIMA Mall.

You listed 6 players, I said Dakota was top 10 maybe 5. How many of the guys listed are the leading all time scorer in their school's history? Averaged 28 pts. 9 boards as a junior and a senior? Also, Dakota was an integral part of a team that came up just short of winning a state championship.

1. Scoop
2. Xavier
3. Hutch
4. Jamar
5. this is where is gets tough......Demond Lyles, Dakota, Clay Tucker, Jimmy Conrad, old farts like Bobby is speaking of like Jim Andrews and Joe Fischer.
4.

Even though, technically, Elida is not part of Lima.......it is in Allen County. I would put Dakota Mathias in this conversation. best ever, no top 10, yes.....probably top 5.
Id have to go with Greg Simpson. What about new Knoxville, is that Allen or auglaize? Evan Eschmeyer was a 1st round draft pick of the New Jersey Nets back in the 90s.

Not throwing Tre Cobbs into this convo by any means..... other than to say Aaron Matthews said this a.m. that OSU should offer him.
No offense, but No ......

1. X
2. Scoop
3. Hutch

How can anyone say Greg was better then X.
Greg was a scorer and scorer only.
X can do it all.
Score, Assist when needed get team involved, and great Defense.
So someone explain to me how anyone can not put X at the top of list.

No if's, and's, but's about it I take Greg Simpson. Not even close.
One on one, Greg would eat X's lunch. I think Aaron Hutchins and Clay Tucker for that matter would eat X's lunch 1v1.

I actually think X may be a little over rated......Greg Simpson was definitely the better of the 2......just did not have his priorities in order!!!!!

Overated????
how???
He is the best player in Ohio!!!
He has improved on everything he needed to.
His basketball IQ is off the charts!!!
Please explain this ludicrous statement!!!
And to say Greg was better i hard to say.
Greg was all about Greg period.
No team in I and that what Greg was.
LSH probably would have won the state title game if Greg wasn't about Greg.
X is better on the court and off the court period.
Greg scorer only.
X defense and basketball intelligence would beat him.

Greg was actually a pretty damn good defender, and besides Demond Lyles, Greg Simpson didn't have the scoring around him that X did, the early 90's spartans had some excellent role players and Lyles and Simpson carried them scoring- wise. It is tough to compare players from different eras, but Greg was a 2 time Ohio Mr. Basketball

In a one on one battle, Greg probably would beat Xavier. He's a bit taller and more athletic, but let us remember basketball is a TEAM sport. Xavier won one state title, and missed a half court shot from leading another team to a state title, along with winning Mr. Basketball.
I am a Spartan, as was my father before me.

Paul Howard wasn't bad for the old school guys. Back when Lucas was at Middletown. Lima has never come close to a Lucas .
