I haven't made it out to many games this year, but i've been wondering how the Legion has been doing this year.

They are doing alright. They won the TAWA Classic in Columbus Grove and Ottawa last weekend. They beat the Ottawa Legion last night 14-10. And they play at Athens this weekend and at Cincinnati the next

How did Ottawa do in their Tawa Classic? Who came in 2nd to Lima?
What is Ottawa's overall record so far this summer?

I guess District 2 contracted again as St. Marys folded for the summer...sad news to hear...so it will only have Lima v. Sidney in the District 2 Tournament...

Legion baseball dying on the vine...Lima might be better served to go Connie Mac at some point in the future...still play the Legion tournament, but start looking at the Connie Mac and/or PastTime baseball...able to recruit from bigger area if need be...

My sources are pretty reliable...was told they had numbers problems...getting players to show up.
Also, cancelled dates with Lima, Sidney, and PIqua....
they are done.

Well, if this really is true, it's just a 2 team district then or is the district folding and heading in to the district with napoleon and ottawa....i forget what district number that is

No, District 2 will play with the two teams...winner will represent the District at State.
District 3 I believe only has 2 or 3 teams in it...and recently only had 2...and there is a district up near Cleveland that only has one team in the district....

hit load before I was ready....

that is what I have been told is that the District will go forward with playing with the 2 team format and hopes that next year more teams will return to the fold...

Hard to believe that SM can't field a team...they were so dominant in years past...
Van Wert seems to always struggle...not sure about Bellefontaine, and ST. Henry...

It's amazing St. Mary's folded. They have the huge fall league and they have really good baseball schools all around them! I'm pretty sure Greenville doesn't have a team again so where are all these players at? St. Mary's legion should have every kid from St. Henry, St. Marys, Wapak and Celina that are good enough for legion ball.

There are so many teams out of Columbus, Dayton and others that kids are playing for that Legion ball is becoming lower class. Not to say that it is not good baseball, just saying the money is not there for the teams to travel and play better teams. These teams in Columbus and Dayton give kids better looks from better scouts (major league and college). I feell it is great for kids to get playing time against better competition and with the larger "market" teams other kidsdo get the chance to play legion baseball. Attitude and the willingness of parents and coaches has alot to do with where these kids are going as well.

Just read an article in the paper that says the legion is 24-5. That's a pretty good record in my opinion! With a sweep against Sidney this year it looks like the Legion is state bound for the fourth year in a row. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Not sure if SM will have a team next year. If they do, it might be without Billy Shoffner as Coach...and that is sad because Billy is a good Coach and good for the kids...teaches the right stuff.

Legion Baseball isn't a second rate organization...some changes need to be made to make them more competitive with the teams out of Columbus/Cincinnati/Dayton areas...recruiting restrictions hurt...the fact that most Legions are losing their membership...and the money is tight.

Greenville is going on its second or third year without a team. They were a Legion/Connie Mac team, but mainly supported by funds raised through fund raising...the Legion didn't put much money into that program at all from what I know.

St. Henry Legion I think would sponsor a team...but getting the kids is the question...do they want to play 45-50 games in a summer???

Back "in the day" Lima had two teams competing...

Legion baseball needs a major infusion of new direction...not sure that will happen any time soon.

I have a feeling legion baseball is going to die out within the next 5 years. With sports being the way they are now it's tough for kids to juggle summer conditioning if they play basketball or football, maybe a job a couple times a week, and then baseball every night. The first thing to get cut out is the baseball every night because coaches are so strict about showing up to conditioning now and money is a major necessity in high school for many different reasons.

The Lima Legion won the Cincinnati Storm Club Tournment by beating a team by Michigan something like 15-3? I do know they scored 12 runs in one inning.

I actually made it to the championship game this weekend and i'm not going to lie. I was scared when the score was just 3-2 in the 5th i believe? Then all hell broke loose lol the lead off batter for the inning (Nik Moore) almost got up 3 times in one inning.

Lima Legion beat Pemperville 13-8 last night.
Any word on their head coach leaving to take a job somewhere else?

I really hope he leaves. He's an emberassment to the Legion program. Showing up drunk/hung over to nearly every game is unacceptable. The 29 or 30 wins in a season looks extremely good, but talking with the parents, none of the kids nor parents respect the guy. I personally see the job given to either Damon Koverman or Dick Rieman next season. Personally, I'd rather see Koverman (even though he's very young) have the job because Rieman makes just as many dumb calls as Koch. I could be wrong and someone's making the calls from the dug-out while koch's gone but idk who would be making those calls. Who knows, maybe Billy Shoffner (spelling?) will possibly put his name in too. He's a very respected coach around the area.

If he chooses not to come back, I would love to see the job go to Damon Koverman as well. The kids seem to respond to him well and he has a passion for coaching and for the Legion.

He also has been in a household with one of the best coaches I've been around, which is his dad. Too bad parents from other places had to complain about his language. Even though he did drop the "F" bomb quite often, he was one of the most respected coaches in the area.
