VB has fared well in scrimmages thus far, goin 1-2-2 at the pete raffa memorial tourney, going 2-1-2 in the OG 6 team scrimmage last tuesday, beating LCC and genoa and losing to OG. Tied continental and toledo christian... Also, this thursday, they beat sandusky with ease in 3 35-minute periods, winning 9-1. So... this season may be better than last year...

I don't look for VB to do anything special this year. They were bad last year and losing their best players should not help them any this year. Should be another long year for VB.

Although Vb did lose 3 main players, they return 3 seniors that started last year in sleasman, flanagan, and smith... 2 freshman may get significant playing time, and the bench is fairly deep this year... also, 3 players that did not play last year (1 junior and 2 seniors) will also start- 2 on defense and 1 on offense... VB may not do anything special this year, but could pull a few upsets and give some teams a little trouble

6-Sep at Upper Sandusky 5pm
11-Sep at P-G 5pm

15-Sep Bryan 2pm
18-Sep at Ft Jennings 5pm
20-Sep Calvert 5pm
22-Sep T Columbian 9:30am

I would have to agree with MUF on this one. Personally I would love to see VB go winless this year.

i was personally surprised with VB in the scrimmage against us....they beat us..then again we were using a goalie who is playing soccer for the first time in his life and made some rookie mistakes. their defense is looking quite impressive though

Is this goalie going to be your starting keep all year or was he just in against VB.

I agree with Manfan. Five wins, tough schedule.

It's true this team is a young team, but their passing and talking has improved greatly from recent years. While they may have lost 3 major players from last year, they also lost a lot of ego problems that seemed to bring the team down. Look for good things from Sleasman, Adams, D. Baker and Ayers

Van Buren has one goalie who is new and is a junior and hasnt played one high school game... and the other one is a sophmore who is very young and pretty small still, so there is alot of inexperience there also...

The question with the keeper who hasn't played yet in high school won't be if he's good, I mean being Angie Baker's brother, he's picked up some good teaching, but I've played indoor with him a few seasons and he's good...when he wants to be.

I heard each team had two shots on goal. Van Buren had an unlucky handball in the first when they were shooting from a few yards out. Then a freshmen mistake with a few minutes left, an offsides call inside the goalbox. Van Burens defense is the improvement this year, along with a better team unity. I'd expect some good things from the boys this year. And it's about time.

I was at the Kalida game and VB surprised me. I saw VB give a much bigger and more experienced Kalida team a pretty good game. There is a lot of talent on this team from what I saw.

VBHS has about 120 boys in the top three grades and of those boys, they have around 45 playing football and around 20 playing golf....it's good to see that there are still enough boys left to field a decent soccer team. This should be good seasons for all fall sports for the Black Knights.

After all said and done, I think this soccer season should be better than the last few years. Good luck Knights!!!
