That's kind of funny, I see a 14 to 3 in there.
A couple points of interest here:
1. Skillman had 7 goals in that game....
2. Did Upper get a new coach or is Freysoccer trying to cover a turd in sprinkles?
I think the second.
Bill, I've been there. Its hard to get players to stop trying to score goals especially if they are bench end seniors who have never scored before.
I've put a 14-0 spot up on Upper before. Never did I try to run it up, nor did I want my kids to stop playing. I cant just have kids play keep away to keep a score down. Im with Bobby Bowden in saying that it is the other team's job to play better defense. On that note, we had 250 pound kids scoring their first goals, bench cleared, waterboy suited up and the score still got to 14. It happens. When teams CONSISTENTLY go double digits, or get past 15, I do have a problem with that.
If you dont like getting beat by double digits, get better.

I agree with you.
What I don't agree with is how Freysoccer is trying to cover a turd by saying that don't run up the score. Let's look at 2009 stats. Why does Skillman need to be in the game that long to get 7 goals?
Do you understand where I'm coming from?

But one reason why we don't have an insane amount of goals against weak teams, is that our coach is respectful, and has class and doesn't like to run the score up. We are NOT like Findlay and win 19 to 0. Thats just plain disrespectful and embarrasses the other team.
I say the team isn't impressive, because they are not IMO. A 10-1-1 record while conceding 19 goals against opponents with a combined record of 24-73-12 is not impressive.
What does respect have to do with anything? If a team stinks, they should get destroyed. I doubt Findlay was running up the score, it is just that their opponent had no business being on the same field as them (it was a league game). If Findlay ran their JV out there, they'd win by a lopsided scoreline. Perhaps the team on the receiving end of the drubbing should work harder to avoid the embarrassment next year?
Good luck with your season.

FJ had some suspect goalkeeping and Shawnee had some class finishing.

In your reference to the 14 - 3 game the coach put the entire J.V. team in for the second half, pulled skillman out after he broke the school record, and then limited any more scoring to the least skilled player on the team and he still scored. Finally, had to resort to the possession game which can be embarrassing as in the past other teams did this to us and we looked like a bunch of chickens running around. If you noticed, River Valley was dropped from the schedule this season because the coach didn't want to unintentionally run up the score and Mansfield Senior (Division I) was picked up in their place. It was a no win situation.
As to the other games with the large difference in scores, the J.V. was also put in to try not run up the score.

But Upper would never intentionally run up a score.
ONLY IF someone is going to break a school record. Got it. Thanks for the clarification.

You said that last year when VB won 3-1 over Ada lol. VB is in a good position to win the NCOSA for the first time in a while at 5-0 in the league and Calvert and Old Fort left on their league schedule. As long as they don't overlook these two teams that they've never lost to, even when they were 4-12 four years ago (yikes), they should be the league champs.
On another note, I can't wait to see if Ottoville can avoid two losses with Temple and Kalida coming up.. although if they lose to Kalida again, the tournament should be about four times as interesting, right?

First Skillman got 6 goals...2nd that was to break school record..and also we had played Junior varsity players and they were scoring we even had a jv defensive player score..we did everything we could possibly do to make it as drawn out..it was practice..we were not going to stop shooting, he had the jv making a certain number of passes before they could shoot and we still scored. So at that point what do you do as a coach..just stop playing or do nothing..like sit down and play tic tac toe?? Honestly

You say we're not impressive but look at the stats from 2 years ago..to be able to go from that bad of a record to a season of breaking almost every record in our school IS impressive..ya we may not be state contendenders but I promise you throughout the next 5 years you will see straight improvements. We may never be St. Iglausa(Spelling) but for a school that has one coach with no trainers or anything like that where we get no money and everything we do is straight determination we do pretty good.
