Lebron and Kobe could both very well make this list in the future, but for now they haven't done quite enough.

MJ first because he changes basketball to the "new" basketball
Wilt
Kobe
LeBron
Kareem

Watching old films of Walt Frazier, he seemed like a fun guy to watch. I love basketball and the history of the NBA!

FRJ-

If you like NBA history and lists read "The Book of Basketball- The NBA according to the sportsguy" by Bill Simmons. In the book he ranks the top 96 players in 5 levels in terms of a pyramid.....the higher the level the less players in that level. The book is thorough, to say the least (700+ pages), right now I am about three quarters of the way through it and it is ineteresting, no holds barred and very funny. Emphasis is put on the great decade of the 80's, which in my opinion was when the NBA was the most competitive and entertaining.

1. Anfranee "Penny" Hardaway (it's close but the Lil' Penny commercials seal the #1 spot)
2. Michael "Air" Jordan (Ahmad Rashad's "main man")
3. David "The Admiral" Robinson (once scored 71 pts the last game of the year to edge out Shaq for the scoring title. Also got Dennis Rodman to loosen up and eat a slice of pizza backwards)
4. Tracy "T-Mac" McGrady (at his best could score more points than MJ, and I hear he could've been a much better baseball player)
5. Jerry "Mr. Clutch" West (well he is the logo)

Honerable Mention: Dwyane Wade (and his NBA Finals officiating crew)

Now there is a different list of players. David Robinson could be in the running as well as Mr Clutch.

Two interesting occurrances from last night in the NBA which are somewhat related to this topic. Tim Duncan had 21 points and 27 rebounds and is currently averaging 19.9 and 10 boards this season as a graybeard in the NBA. Only a select few have had 20/20 at his age and averaged a double double for the season. He has to be one of the most underrated players of alltime.

Also Kevin Durant scored more than 25 points in a game for like the 19th consecutive game this season which is a record for a player his age in the league. I wonder if the draft of Greg Oden vs Kevin Durant will ever be talked about like the Sam Bowie vs Michael Jordan draft.

IMHO this one has to be broken down into the different eras of the game since it has changed so much over the years. If you go way back you have Bob Cousy, Wilt, Bill Russell, Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Bob Petit....in the 70's you had Jerry West (again/still), Willis Reed, Walt Frazier, Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul Jabbar)....80's had Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Dr. J, Dominique Wilkens, Isaiah Thomas, The start of MJ's run, the 90's had Reggie Miller, John Stockton, Tim Duncan,....wow, just thinking about this 1) shows my age and 2) makes me think about when the game was truly basketball.

In my opinion, if you had a chance to see Larry Bird make some passes that were just unreal, MJ going so high he seemed to elevate even after he left his feet, Magic making the game look so easy, Bill Russell playing defense and making it look easy....this debate could go on for ever!

Oh, for the days when they truly played basketball - a team could beat a player, they all played defense, guards and big men were at a premium....man, I must be getting old fawning for the old days! LOL
