Just curious...how much is this accepted in the coaching world. I've noticed it from time to time. However tonight's game is taking it to a whole new level.

The coach of a well coached team does not rely on this to win games!!!!!!!!!

Years ago, I witnessed Dave Kraus of Patrick Henry sit behind the Lutheran West bench and explain plays to their head coach during the regional final game vs Wayne Trace. Lowest class thing I have ever seen with my own eyes at a high school game. Pathetic.

Coach Kraus's actions in that game are legendary in the WT community. Coach Kraus went so far as to signal who the shooter was likely to be on WT out-of-bounds play to the Lutheran West staff.

Oh good Lord. No one is relying on this tactic, but plenty of coaches do it. It's not that difficult to hide your signals on out of bounds plays or at least mix up your terminology.

Well paperboy.......most good coaches....and I mean a select few have already scouted the opposing team and know before the game what the signals are and the out of bounds play......this is usually relayed to the team before the upcoming game in the scouting report for that game........on game night, the team is very well prepared and do not have to watch the opposing coach for signals..........key words here paperboy are.......a select few good coaches......sheeeeeesh!!!!!!!!!

if the players dont know the top 5 sets and 3 top out bounce plays coming into the game then they weren't coached very well.

Everybody knows each others off sets, def calls, and out of bds plays. It's a non issue. LJ

Re-read my question and if you want to respond again that's cool, but don't take it out of context.

Quite a difference in watching the opposing coach each trip down the floor and ...knowing each others ....

what he said^......i watch a lot of basketball and didn't realize many basketball coaches even use signals. Signals from the sideline are more of a football thing.

I guess I should clarify my definition of "signal" then? :nerd: That probably could be implied wrong in this case; which was a sound signal, not a gesture. :punk:

do coaching staff steal hand signals or verbal signals during a game. yes they do. before the end of the year ur sets, defenses and ob plays might have 10 different. it is also the reason ur sets or ob plays have 3 or 4 different options and you switch them up all year. it is part of the game. our pg watched every play called and told us before they got past half court what was coming. it was so obvious we knew all their plays that they had to change the names and signals at half. took about 4 minutes what they changed them to.

I used to watch Coach Allen Welch when we played Wayne Trace......I mean, I watched him for many years and he never tipped his hand.......I just knew he was watching, but he disguised everything very well.......another trait of a good coach!!!!!!!

Again I'm only interested from a coaching perspective. To each their own on the floor...I get that.

I have no problem with a coach yelling out what a opposing coach yells or signals to his players. I have seen it done almost every possession in games for years by a few coaches. I have NEVER heard a coach even complain about it. STILL not an issue. LJ
