As most of you have heard the Oho high school hockey state final went 7 overtimes before OHSAA declared the game over and State co-champs crowned. My understanding is the coaches agreed to the stoppage. Guess there is also a national rule that does not allow shootouts in H.S. hockey. Game lasted about 3.5 hours. One goalie had 77 saves. Sure there are many more amazing stats from this game. I'm sure the players wanted a winner crowned. Was the right thing done here?

Any thought about bringing the kids back the next day to resume the game?? Much like a rain out/ lightening delay in baseball/ softball/ football/ soccer?

Not sure ending in a tie is a good idea for anyone?

Why isn't is a good idea? these kids did have to get up this morning and go to school, after going home Saturday night or Sunday morning, most likely on a school bus. That's if they could walk today.

By the time the bus got them home, my guess would the kids on both teams were happy, fed, and extremely tired. Then amount of effort expended over 3 1/2 hours had to be tremendous, calling a tie is fine.

kudos to the kid with 77 saves. He's the state champion imho

I heard the Commissioner say that some of the kids couldn't get over the boards to get on and off the ice in the 7th overtime. They were absolutely exhausted. He brought up a great point, what if a kid had gotten hurt very badly because of this exhaustion if they continued to play. Not a scenerio anyone wants to see. I know a tie is like kissing your sister, but I think it was absolutely the right call.

As far as coming back the next day, I'm gonna assume that most of those kids had a hard time getting out of bed on Sunday. I think lacing the skates up would be the last thing they would want to do. I think the national rule regarding shoot-outs needs to be looked at. Ohio isn't the only state that has had games like this. Shoot-outs happen at every level above high school, why not at this level.

I don't mind it....but I think the best way to do it would have said after the 6th OT that "we're going to play 1 more".....instead of coming out after the period and just saying it's over. The "no-shootout" rule isn't a national rule....it's just that Ohio has never put a shootout rule in place. I'm guessing that it will be put in before next season.
