Okay let's hear it: What do you guys got?

We have picthing over at Bath (Jordan, Gossard, and Sullivan), but will we hit good enough to finally defeat the the blue and grey?

The WBL is shaping up to be a three team race with Bath and Wapak chasing Defiance. Last season, it seemed that many were questioning whether Defiance could keep alive their six or seven year unbeaten streak in the WBL. DHS proved the doubters wrong and in remarkable fashion. There will be some raising the same question this year as well. As in years past, Defiance will have a number of strong arms on the bump, but probably not of the quality of last year. Turner, Hancock, Green and Hendricks will be Defiance's top pitchers. Bath, with Gossard and Sullivan could be a real threat to Defiance. So could Wapak, even though they lost a ton of starters off of last year's team. My predictions for the 2014 WBL baseball season:
1. Defiance
2. Bath
3. Wapak
4. OG
5. Celina
6, Shawnee
7. St. Mary's
8. Elida
9. Van Wert
10. Kenton

I think you have Wapak way too high and Van Wert way too low. Other than that I'd agree

I think you just might be correct on those two but I put Wapak so high due to their excellent coaching. Even after losing a great senior class, I think Wapak has enough returning players to be very competitive in the WBL this season. If Culver is on his game, he'll be very tough to beat. Van Wert, on the other hand, usually has some pretty good talent but they rarely seem to be able to put it all together. OG is another interesting team with some pretty good pitching in Shimmoeller and Warnecke. I should've probably had OG 3rd and Wapak 4th. No matter, as I think they'll all be trying to stay up with Defiance. DHS is loaded again this year and just might score more than the 243 runs they scored in 2013. Having a pitching staff with quality and quantity, they have a chance to hold the opposition to the 46 runs allowed last year. Unlike last season, when three, maybe four teams, had a legitimate shot at the league title, Defiance is the clear favorite in 2014.

I see Defiance losing 1or 2 conference games but still winning the WBL. I see the top 4 being

1. Defiance
2. Bath
3. OG
4. Van Wert

If our guys throw strikes, this could be a very good year for the Titans. Jaylen may not have had overpowering stuff last year, but he did throw strikes. Our lineup may not have the star power like last year, but Zender & the boys will score some runs like last year. The question is, will they do it in the big games? That's where we struggled bigtime last year, getting the timely hit in big games. Until somebody shows they can beat Defiance, though, have to pick them for the league. That winter long-tossing program of Tom Held always produces some arms up there

That throwing program also produces lots of arm injuries

Yep. Anybody over 50 will tell you that the arm only has so many throws in it.

I think a big match up Tuesday at Bath vs Elida. This is a measuring stick game for Elida. They are 5-0 with decent hitting but their has played well and pitching has been good too. We will find out how good they are on Tuesday.

I know Culver is a very good pitcher, but I don't think I would put Wapak any higher than 5th. They lost a lot and have some good younger players, I am just not sure if they are the same level. They have started better than I thought though so we will see how it plays out.

Defiance gets past their first major WBL obstacle, defeating Bath 4-0. Hancock with six innings of 4 hit shutout pitching and Turner with one inning.

Huge week coming up in the league. Defiance/Celina, OG/Shawnee and Wapak/Bath all on Tuesday. Loser of Wapak/Bath is likely out of the WBL race. Defiance at OG on Friday night. Defiance riding a 70 game WBL win streak. Biggest game at OG in a long long time assuming all goes well on Tuesday.

Well, if the streak is going to end this year, almost have to figure it will be in the next 3 league games for Defiance. Titans get their crack at Defiance tomorrow before Wapak & Van Wert next week
