In theory it can but normally it goes to the highest goal scorer, occasionally a midfielder.

I would look for Tropf (VB) and Grant (Riverdale) to be in the running for POY as they will probably be the top scorers in the league this year. The player for the league champ team may get the edge and also, Tropf is a senior and Grant is a junior.

if Tropf and grant are top of the running it will most likely go to the winner of that game when those two play each other

You know the NCOSA is down when Grant & Tropf are the top mentions for NCOSA POY

I think this an unfair judgement on both players. Not sure what we're basing this on. Both are dangerous attacking players. Granted, the league is down in overall quality but there are several good players out there still.

agreed. Good players all around, but the league seems a little down. Good to see the botom teams moving up. (Upper, Calvert) Im even glad to see Van Buren back in the mix. (Did I say that?!?!)

Both players are decent, but I just meant in years past they would not be in the mix with herreras, shuck, hartman, pifer. They are not that high caliber. They are just the top of the NCOSA bc of the lack of skill level in the NCOSA. They are still good players though nothing against them.

When you score a lot of goals against a bad team, does that make him a GREAT player?

No.

Is he good?

Yes.

POY?

Normally it'll go to a player that is on the 1st place team. And Upper has already lost to VB and VB and Riverdale have yet to lose or tie in the NCOSA. Anyone can still get it.

IT doesnt always go to the player on the best team. I thought Pifer should have won it in 2004, based on his league game stats. It went to Nate instead, no knock on him. smile.gif I think that the coaches do a pretty good job of voting all-league, but there are exceptions sometimes.....

I think that the league should adopt a formation to help with league voting because the NCOSA forgets about most defenders. Remember the best offense and no defense is just Arsenal.

Defenders get left out of everything. I always did try to remember who I thought were the best ones that I saw through the season.

Remember though, the best defense and no offense never wins.

I definately agree with that....i can remember Vb having amazing defenders in there wonder years.....ada had them ft.jennings had them riverdales had them, sorry i cant remember any of the names on ada or ft.jennings just remember there being some very good defense on those teams

Vb had

Kaughman
Brown
Hassink
Reynolds
McMurray
Depuy

Riverdales had
Matt Vogel
Keith Vogel
Josh Vogel
Josh Etherton

Any one of those boys should have been worthy on being player of the year. (List some more names please), but yes to your point formercoach Defenders have gotten screwed in that area, I think we need some change

I've had a lot of Vogel's, but not quite that many...no Josh Vogel smile.gif I'll add Alex Gil on that list along with a VERY good GK Ben Thomas.

Great MFs get overlooked too unless they are goal-scoring MFs. Zidane scored some goals, but could never be considered a goal-scoring MF. He is however one of the 5 greatest players ever. Beckenbauer, Bobby Moore, so many greats that didn't score goals while there are FWs that score many goals but would never be considered great players, only great goal scorers & there's a big difference.
