That's what makes the small schools so great going into a bigger school and beating them. I love to see the underdog come in and get a Victory. It shows that hard work still can be rewarding.

Kelley's Island, with fewer than 10 students in their high school, is an OHSAA member. Your school wasn't too small. However, allowing home schooled kids on sports teams would make them ineligible for OHSAA membership.
Bobby, this got me thinking because I think I remember a home school case a few years ago (no not Ada ). I looked this up and there is a provision for home school kids playing sports. Taken from OHSAA website

"

EXCEPTION 6: A student who is home schooled and is enrolled in a member school in accordance
with the partial enrollment policy of a Board of Education or similar governing board
may be eligible at the school where the student is enrolled and attending. Such partial enrollment
policy requires that at least one of the courses be taken at the school’s physical location. Note: A
student entering a member school from a home school must do so at the beginning of the school
year after having been home schooled for at least one calendar year. Failure to meet this one-year
provision requires the student to be enrolled for a minimum of one grading period before the
student can be declared eligible.

I'm not sure why the school never joined the OSHAA to be honest, but it was most likely due to the fact that the school didn't really care all that much about athletics. It was a college prep school that used some of the toughest curriculum of any school I have ever seen. I remember people transferring from Archbold, Stryker, and other public schools in jr. high and high school and being two to three grade levels behind us, because were were doing college level stuff in 10th grade. Athletics were always secondary to academics at the school, and for the most part, we didn't have any real "stellar" athletes, and the few that we did have ended up transferring to Archbold to play on their varsity basketball team in the late 90s. One of them actually ended up playing in the 96 state championship game for Archbold. And even that player ended up riding the bench at Archbold on the varsity squad. So if we ever did have amazing athletes, they ended up going where they could play and it would "matter".

After watching LCC last night against Spencerville, I would have to say that either LCC is overrated or Sville is underrated.

Said that for years. I don't get the fascination.

The fascination comes from the fact they are very physical teams, just like in the MAC. I do not feel the PCL is overrated at all. I would rate NW Ohio conferences like this in order strongest first from top to bottom. (These are not all the conferences, but these are the ones mostly talked about).

1. MAC
2. WBL
3. PCL
4. NWOAL/NWC - tie
5. BVC
6. GMC
7. BBC

I had the last laugh. Muahahaha

I think its safe to say...

PCL isnt overrated but has been better.

LCC is overrated**

DSJ isnt good**

**Its safe to say private schools are overrated and should never play public schools.

The MAC is good and is sometimes* Overrated- especially New Knoxville

I have trouble finding an overrated team so far because I think we knew basketball in the area would be down overall.....the teams that we expected to do well (Elida, LCC, Archbold, Napoleon, Defiance) are doing well and some of the teams we knew that would struggle because of graduation and coaching changes are doing so...

getting back to the topic..... these teams plus Edgerton, Leipsic and Wauseon are probably the highest rated. The one who stands out to me as most overrated is Archbold........ they have beat 6-7 div IV teams (most of them down like Continental) have won two games by 2 points and three in OT I believe. In my estimation they have two worhty wins (Kalida in OT and Wauseon although they also lost to Wauseon early in the season by 20).............

Archbold will win their league, and got the #1 seed going into the playoffs, and their only losses were to teams in Division II, Elida, Defiance, Wauseon, and one who was ranked ahead of them in Division III, Ottawa Glandorf.

The teams they "barely" won were against Tinora, who was ranked immediately after them and Patrick Henry, a few slots down in the rankings.

The only other close game was against Swanton, which the result of a poor shooting night for Archbold.

So, no, not overrated. In fact, I think they are "rated" right where they should be.

There only other potential loss for the regular season will be against Napoleon, another good Division II team.

It's not really fair to compare Archbold's wins and losses, considering their schedule is full of Division II teams, and two of their OOC division 4 games are against perennially good teams in Continental and Kalida.

Their other DIV IV opponents are archrivals: Pettisville
and in league play against Montpelier.

I'd like to see another division III team, outside of OG, whose entire conference is filled with D II, schools, that plays an OOC schedule like Archbold.

Continental, Kalida, Defiance, Napoleon, OG, and Elida are OOC games for them.

Also, their losses to OG and Wauseon were the result of shooting nights under 25% from the field, and both were road losses.

Archbold's only home loss was to Elida, who is ranked in the state in DII.

So, again, I'm not really seeing how Archbold is overrated.

Archbolds Schedule:

D IV:
Kalida
Continental
Holgate
Pettisville
Stryker
Montpelier

D III;
Delta
Patrick Henry
Liberty Center
Swanton
Fairview
Ottawa Glandorf
Tinora
Evergreen

D II;
Defiance-
Napoleon
Bryan
Wauseon (x2)
Elida

The eight teams I bolded, were the only teams on Archbold's schedule that were truly "down" or bad this year. Four were league games, which Archbold HAS to play, one was a D II, school, two were D III, and one was D IV.

That leaves four OOC games. One in D III (Fairview), and three in D IV. One, Pettisville, is an archrival of Archbold, so that game is on the schedule, regardless. The other is Stryker, which is game that they play every year, and that leaves Continental, who has until this year, been a perennially good team in D IV.

So, really? You're going to call a loaded schedule like Archbold's weak because they beat "six to seven" D IV schools, and lost to ranked teams in Division II? I mean if that's your reasoning, you really should lay off the drugs, or whatever it is you've been ingesting.

If you can point to another DIII school that played OG, Defiance, Napoleon, Wauseon, and Elida all in the same regular season, and won, please point them out to me, because I'd love to see that team.

If you are saying state titles yes MAC has more but they are small school state titles.. I am saying matching up wbl vs mac 1vs1 2vs2 the WBL would win almost on regular basis they do not have the state titles because most schools are in D2

Well I don't think they are overrated but if you look at Archbolds losses: Lost by 20 to Wauseon, lost by 15 to O-G not too mention only scoring a total of 19 points in that game?, lost by 23 to Elida, lost by 17 to Defiance. I can understand your point though. Those are all good teams but their losses average out to be about 19 points a game against them. If they were to keep them games close like within 5-8 points I would say then you can defend the fact that their losses were to good teams. But these are not just losses they are BIG losses. Poor shooting night or not they are still big losses. Now they do have some key wins against a few good opponents but I wouldnt say that Archbold is in a real strong conference either to help them out. But to say Archbold is overrated I don't know about that. I mean I don't even think they are really ranked that high are they?
No object is mysterious. The mystery is your eye.

They aren't ranked at all, in the state at least. I think in the district they are directly behind OG, and ahead of Tinora, and Delta, both within two spots of each other. But, honestly, Archbold is not overrated. They are basically a decent D III team, who who will win their sectional, probably the district semi-final game, and lose to OG in the district finals, at the beginning of the year, they probably wouldn't have even done that.

They have gotten better since their first loss to Wauseon and OG. Both of those losses were due to horrendous shooting nights.

I saw the Wauseon, OG, Defiance, and Elida games.

Elida and Defiance flat outplayed them. Defiance and Elida are both legit teams, and will make deep tourney runs. Believe me. Defiance beat Archbold by 15 last year, and are even better this year.

Wauseon ended up getting beat by Archbold, when Archbold played to their full potential.

When Archbold plays to their full potential, they are good. They aren't stellar by any means, but they sure as hell aren't overrated.

Of course they're small school state titles, most of the MAC schools are small schools.
