The Arlington Lady Red Devils just completed a whirlwind season culminating in a Girls Basketball State Championship during the past month. The RC had a few minutes recently to sit down with one of the main cogs from that team to ask her a few questions about sports, school, and just life in general.......
You can tell from the first moment that you meet her that Amelia is well-grounded and knows where she's heading in life. As one of the by-now famous Recker Quadruplets, Amelia is a standout both on the court and in the classroom carrying a 3.87 GPA.
RC: Amelia, tell us what your plans are for the future both school and sports-wise?
Amelia: I will be enrolling at Huntington University this fall, majoring in Pre-Med. I will be playing basketball for Coach Culler
in the highly competitive Mid-Central College Conference.
RC: Favorite subject in school? And of course, least favorite!
Amelia: My favorite is Biology, and least favorite is Calculus.
RC: Next question. Your favorite movie all-time?
Amelia: I loved The Bodyguard
RC: Do you have any other hobbies other than sports?
Amelia: Well, reading books and relaxing with my family. And what girl doesn't love to shop!
RC: We know you're still young but what is your "dream car" to own someday?
Amelia: Blue Ford Mustang convertible
RC: Favorite high school memory? ( other than winning that state championship of course )
Amelia: We just got back from our Senior class trip and it was so much fun. Also the Jr. class play
that we put on for the Arlington community
RC: What college teams do you follow?
Amelia: I root for the Dukies in men's basketball and the Oklahoma Sooners in women's basketball.
RC: Do you have any advice for any of the younger ones reading RocketCorner?
Amelia: Play your hearts out and give it everything you have all the time. You don't want to leave the court
with regrets or "what if." The most important thing is to have fun. The whole reason you started playing the
sport was because it was FUN for you and if it just becomes a job or work then your effort starts to become
lazy and not caring.
RC: What do you do to relax?
Amelia: Watch sports. I don't think there is ever a time that I'm not watching, playing, or talking about sports.
Of course it's always basketball!
RC: Is there any advice that someone has given you that you use every day?
Amelia: Leave it all out on the floor. There are no second chances so you have nothing to lose. I remember Coach
Newlove telling us that in the locker room before the state championship game. That even if it feels like you're giving
it your all, give just a little more because you never get this back. It's all a coach will ever ask for. If you give it your
best, you will play for any coach.
RC: In 10 years where do you see yourself?
Amelia: In medical school and hopefully settling into a family life.
Thanks Amelia,
and I know that I can speak for the rest of the RC in wishing you and the rest of the Recker family good
luck in the future! Your parents, school, and community should be extremely proud of all your accomplishments and
I have a pretty good feeling that more great things will happen in your life...........RM

Well done - believe me, the Arlington community will miss all four of the Recker kids but fortunately for us, they have left a legacy of basketball that all of the younger kids will strive for.
