Just curious what people think is the best conference in our area. It's clearly either the WBL or MAC but which would you choose?

WBL Teams and Points Per Game:
Elida - 39.8 ppg
St. Mary's - 39.3 ppg
Celina - 31.8 ppg
Wapak - 30.9 ppg
Kenton - 29.6 ppg
Shawnee - 28.5 ppg
Van Wert - 28.1 ppg
OG - 23.8 ppg
Defiance - 12.9 ppg
Bath - 11.4 ppg

MAC Teams and Points Per Game:
Anna - 34 ppg
St. Henry - 31 ppg
Marion Local - 29.4 ppg
DSJ - 26.6 ppg
New Bremen & Minster - 23.5 ppg
Versailles - 22.9 ppg
Coldwater - 22.3 ppg
Ft. Recovery - 21.3 ppg
Parkway - 13.5 ppg

*In my opinion, if you take the top teams in both (St. Mary's & Marion Local), that would be a heck of a game and a very quick game too. Go even further and take the next two best in each (Elida & Wapak vs. Anna & St. Henry)......what's your thoughts?

There is a reason why they call it " The Mighty Mighty MAC. The MAC Hands Down.

I love the Wbl. But it's clearly The MAC.

Not sure how you can say "clearly" because it's not. Such a difference in football between the two. I think WBL offense has more firepower.

I'm not sure offensive average is a clear indicator of anything.

The MAC seems to be as strong, top to bottom, as it has been in years. No great team and no terrible team but lots of strong teams. I think there have only been two head-to-head matchups and the MAC won both: Versailles 36 Celina 7 and Coldwater 35 Kenton 28. Not really enough data to determine anything.

Based on the comparable size of the schools, it is clearly the MAC, especially at the top of the league. MAC schools are approx. half the size of the WBL yet clearly as good or better. A lot of the WBL schools have to use 5 wide offenses to move the ball because they don't have enough athletes to just line up and run it. 5 wide offenses really are not effective unless who have a superior quarterback (Mauk, McAdams).

Sorry, but I disagree completely. You guys are making it sound like it's "clearly" the MAC and it's not by any means. For example, Shawnee crushed Delphos Jefferson to begin the season, and the very next week Jefferson beat Versailles. I know you can't really compare stuff like that, because on any given night, anything can happen. However, you give me middle of the pack Kenton against middle of the pack Delphos St. John's, i'm taking Kenton every day in that matchup. The WBL runs 5 wide offenses, because THEY CAN with the athletes in their league. The matchup I would love to see is St. Mary's vs. Marion Local. Two teams that love to run the ball and use the clock. I think you are overlooking quite a bit when it comes to these two conferences because that game would be much closer than you think it would.
The only noticeable difference I see, is the bottom two teams. Defiance & Bath vs. New Bremen & Parkway.....i think the MAC would win both of those games, but then again, you just never know.

And another thing I forgot to mention, you guys are also using state championships as an outline for this comparison. Don't get me wrong, what Marion Local, Coldwater, Minster, etc. has been able to do is impressive and it's great for our area. However, if you put Wapak, St. Mary's, Elida in that same playoff bracket, I truly think they would all make a run as well. Those divisions aren't exactly powerhouses.

Marion Local is throwing the ball 20 times a game this year. They aren't the run-heavy team you seem to think they are.

Actually, 5 wide sets are set up more for speed players than pro/tight formations, which typically use more power and blocking schemes. The best of both systems still require "athletes."

Yes, if you throw the ball more, typically having a better throwing QB helps. Not sure anyone can argue that.

Paperboy, don't get your panties in a twist, that's not even the issue we are discussing but thanks for chiming in.
