It looks like a long run for the OV Big Green girls, if they can get by Crestview and DSJ (who beat them last year 41-39). I have done a little research. If the BG can get to the reg. there will some very tough teams to beat. Arlington, Archibald. The teams to look out for are Fort L., New Madison Tri-Village, Berlin Hiland, & Reedsville Eastern. Now of course this is IF, and I mean IF they make it that far. D-4 is a difficult division. Go Lady Green...

Are you saying this will be three of the four teams at regional? Isn't Archbold in D3?

If they play even half as good as sat they can beat anyone. Koch and creamer are lethal from 3, and their inside outside game is impressive.

He is not on the coaching staff anymore. I think he left after last season because of work but I am not real positive though. I just heard and never bothered to ask.

He quite a few weeks into the season.

I was a little perplexed that only one ottoville girl was voted to first team all-conference? Honestly speaking, I'm not sure any other kid in the PCL could crack O'ville's starting 5.

The voters are tired of voting for Ottoville players, even though they have so many good players, it is probably jealousy or bias. You have to spread the wealth and awards around to keep everyone happy. I would rather win games and be on a great team and go some where in the tournament, rather than win an award. It is a team game, I is not in the word team. They have some tough games coming up, we will see: Del Jeff, they will put a stall on them like did to Crestview. The Jeffcats still have some very good players from last, it is NOT a shoe in. Will be tough, I will listening Thursday night.

Ya you just have to give the award to the better players in the league not to the ones that have not received one in a while. Then it just defeats the purpose of the award. But who knows maybe there were other players in the league that stood out to certain voters. But like von said, an award is just a plaque that you put on your wall and then in about a few years after you graduate you put it in a box and store it somewhere.

The voters are coaches, not just people off the street. In most conference voting systems, you can't vote for your own players and rightfully so. But it does leave the possibility that other coaches will vote good players low on purpose, so it gives their own players a chance to get higher honors. I'm not sure if the PCL gives the coaches a print-out to the coaches of how each coach voted, but they should.

I'm not complaing, as I have no horse in the race. But I did find it interesting that a team that ran the table, finished ranked #1 in the state, could only muster 2 kids on the first and 2nd teams.

Not sure there is a right or wrong way for leagues to vote for all league selections. You just are not going to get multiple kids in the first and second teams, no matter how successful you are. As mentioned earlier, coaches don't vote for their own kids, so you rely strictly on the one or two times you've played the kid, maybe a scouting trip and stats provided. I don't know how closely coaches look at stats, or if they simply look at points/ rebounds/ assists, etc. An area I like to see is shooting percentage, shots per game, turnovers. Good players can score points without taking a ton of shots. Many kids can average 15 points a game if they shoot the ball 15 times or more per game. Can the kid defend? Are they a leader or a cancer with team attitude.

Which is exactly why voting for league awards is nonsense to me. Success to me can have a HUGE part of how voting should be done. If a team ran the table all season long and dominated the league I would say majority of the league awards would go to that team. Sometimes individual stats can be deceiving though. You could have a girl playing on a 7-13 team that is averaging 15 points a game, which looks good on paper, but does it look better than a girl averaging 10 points a game playing on a 20-0 team? Some cases you just simply have 5 starters, sometimes even 1 coming off the bench, that are just better than the rest of the league. I think you could make a strong case about that this year in the PCL. Everyone can make their own argument as to who deserves what award. But in the end sometimes the better ones just simply don't get what they deserve.

LOL!!!! Opening another can of worms with that recognition thing again. Just joking Mystery. I get what your saying but there is two sides to everything. That girl that scores 15 on a not so good team will have a lot harder time scoring because she is often times double or even triple teamed. The girl getting 10 points on a very good team will probably get easier shots. I think the coaches like to spread it out so each of the teams is recognized even thou it is a single player. Not sure if I explained very well what I meant.

What ever goes, happens, if you have great players, they will rise to the moment. It is all skill and luck, and a few breaks. May the luckiest team win, especially if it is the Lady Green. Thanks

Hey Von, I was at the Crestview vs. DJ game and there did not seem to be a stall going on. The teams were just that bad. Turnovers and poor ball handling ended in a 6-2 first quarter score. Some of the worst high school girls basketball I have ever seen for the entire game and then you had the debacle of a game for DSJ that followed. Ottoville plays name the score if they keep the best players in for the majority of the time vs DJ.

Exactly. I listened to the game and overall it was just a bad shooting night. It didn't sound like there was much stalling going on. Either way I think Jefferson will still play tough to Ottoville and give them everything they can bring to the table.
