I'am sure there are several good candidates, but the Bearcats should consider long time Middle School coach Jon Brewer. Nice guy, good HS wrestler, and dedicated to the sport.

I saw some recent hirings from Spencerville with principal and others, but no mention of a wrestling coach. Anyone have an idea of what Spencerville is thinking of in regard to the wrestling program and a coach?

Seems they are more interested in hiring a softball coach for next spring than a wrestling coach for the winter!

Can't believe they are having such a difficult time hiring a wrestling coach.

I heard a rumor that they are going to wait another month waiting for someone to step up...I heard there has been one or two people interested but they were lacking experience...I don't know any names though...one of those I heard it from someone who heard it from someone who heard it from someone else who heard from someone else

At this point, does it really matter what experience an interested candidate has? Hire someone to lead the program; if they are inexperienced, have the inexperienced AD supervise the inexperienced wrestling coach closely; if it helps, they can have the inexperienced principal supervise the inexperienced AD while he is supervising the inexperienced wrestling coach.

It doesnt matter. Graham is going to destroy everyone.

Well, it would be nice to get someone hired so he can at least get the boys working...it really isn't fair to the team. So what if Graham destroys everyone...they do that every year. This is an individual sport and each kid can do their very best and have success.

Kennedy - what on earth does Graham have to do with this topic? Not the same OHSAA division, net even the same universe in regard to high school wrestling. Spencerville may not be Graham, but anyone that sees value in athletic programs as a means of extending educational activities beyond book learning has to wonder what is up in S'ville.

I believe what contributors to this thread are trying to figure out is why it is taking so long for the school board to find a coach for a program that has a solid tradition of offering competitive opportunities as well as life-skill building opportunities to young men in their school district. Makes one wonder.

I actually applied for the position in early September but was told to wait a couple weeks so they could weigh their options and then was told they were going to wait another month (early November) to make a decision. I feel like they need to stop putting it off and hire someone. All they're doing at this point is depriving the kids of valuable time lifting and doing open mats.

This just adds to my amazement. Do the athletes and parents in this program know that candidates have applied and the board waited this long to act?

And now I've heard that Wegesin is maybe just going to coach again this season. Just a rumor at this point.

This is just plain stupid. There are only 2 more weeks of football (really only 1 week) and the kids have no idea what is going on. What a shame for them. They should be out there working and getting ready. The first meet is only a little over a month away! They are really letting the boys hang out to dry...way to go!

I can't believe how badly they have dropped the ball on this. For supposedly wanting someone by the end of may they sure are dilly dallying around. Whoever becomes coach is going to have a rough start to the season since they won't really have much time to become associated with the team.
