Oilers got 3 good ones!!

Head coach Ron Niekamp and The University of Findlay men’s basketball team announced the signing of Sean Sampsel, Greg Kahlig and Mark Frilling during the early signing period on Friday, November 13. All three student-athletes will compete for the Oilers during the 2010-11 campaign.

“All three of these players will help us to fill needs that we will have after graduating our 2010 class,” said Niekamp. These three athletes are highly thought of both as basketball players and students. We are excited about their futures in our program.”

Sampsel, a 5-11, 170-pound guard from Dupont Manual High School in Louisville, Kentucky, was named second team all-Metro as a junior. He was also named the most valuable player of the prestigious Five Star Camp in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania during the 2009 summer and was the 2009 Joe B. Hall Classic MVP. As a junior, Sampsel averaged 13 points, 5 assists and 3 steals per game.

Kahlig, a 6-5, 200-pound forward from Fort Recovery High School in Fort Recovery, Ohio, averaged 23 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals per game as a junior. A two-time, first team all-Midwest Athletic Conference selection, Kahlig was named third team all-Ohio last season after being named honorable mention all-state as a sophomore.

Frilling, a 6-6, 210-pound forward from Fort Loramie High School in Fort Loramie, Ohio, helped lead his team to the regional finals during his junior season as he averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks per game. A honorable mention all-state pick, Frilling was named first team all-Shelby County League as well as first team all-Southwest District. He also carries a 4.0 grade point average and is on track to become valedictorian of his school.

Kahlig and Frilling will square off tonight (Tuesday) in the Holiday Tournament in Coldwater. Should be an interesting ball game and a good chance to see how these two might contribute to the Oiler program down the road.
