Tough loss for O-G. Still in the game late in the 3rd but lost by 26. It seemed like Alter got every rim bounce and ref call, at least in the first half.

You get beat by 26. Have 0 1st half points from outside the paint. Yet the ref calls had an impact on the outcome of this game? Wow.

I said in the first half when the game was close. O-G got a lot of uncontested easy layups, but I thought when there was contact, they were calling more fouls on O-G than Alter.

You might want to check your facts. 1st qtr fouls Alter 2 OG 1. 2nd qtr fouls Alter 6 OG 6. Officiating had nothing to do with this game. The stats you should check out are turnovers and shooting percentage.

The story of this game was the injury. When OG's best play went out with the injury it was game over.

You are absolutely right. The Titans were within 4 and had momentum when their best player got hurt with somewhere around 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. About 20 seconds after that, probably their 2nd best player picked up her 4th foul. Coach Yant decided to let her play. Things immediately started to get out of hand. She finished the quarter, but fouled out with 7:08 left. With their best two players done, the game snow-balled and it was over from there. The final score was not an indication of the 1st 2 and a half quarters or what might have been.

O-G had no answer for the Miller girl. There was a play in the 2nd quarter where Alter turned the ball over and the O-G player was about 4 steps ahead of Miller when the pass was thrown. Miller made up the gap and got to the pass before the O- G player did and Alter scored on the other end. She scored 33 for the game, but that to me was her most impressive play of the game.

The Titans also did not shoot the "3"or foul shots very well. About 20% for both. Alter was right around 50% from 3 and around 75% from the line. The total point difference between foul shots and "3's" was close to the difference in the final score.

Congrats to Alter. They have a very nice team and they earned the win.

Congrats to the Lady Titans. You left everything you had on the floor but unfortunately things didn't go your way. You had a great year and made everyone in Putnam county very proud.

I said nothing about the number of fouls called. When watching the game, I felt like Alter was getting away with more contact. If I watched it again, maybe I would change my mind. But, the point of my initial post was that it was a tough game for O-G. Having that, plus Alter seemed to get every friendly rim bounce, losing two players with five fouls and another to injury, having fans split between games, facing the #1 team that probably has kids from multiple school districts in a big city, etc.

Heck of a season for the Lady Titans. Unfortunate way for them to end the season but still a heck of a year and a lot accomplished by a terrific group.

Bad breaks and some bad luck in the second half of the game and 3/19 from 3 did OG in. Hats off to Miller, she played a terrific game.

OG lost to a bigger and better program. Alter plays many tough D-1 schools. No reason to feel bad, great season. OG should be in D-3.

Nothing against Alter.....it is what it is.....but I wonder how many of those girls live within 5 miles of each other and within 10 miles of the school? Again not trying to turn this into a public/private issue....just would be curious to know

charliesheen, the answer is it doesn't matter. Many kids in larger districts live 20 miles from their school. There are not enough private schools to have their own tournament, there is enough public schools who do well at the state level, and the open enrollment rules are now very loose that this just isn't a factor anymore. Parents and kids can go to any school they wish.

Personally, I know of several high school students who open-enrolled to smaller schools from D1 schools, solely because they didn't make the D1 team. They all saw minutes and/or started on those smaller-school teams. Is this wrong? Or because they can't play at Findlay or Lima Senior, should they be punished and not play HS sports?
Current open-enrollment has changed everything. Private schools don't have the great advantage they once did.

How many public schools have kids who don't live in the district playing sports? Or have kids transfer/move in to play sports? Berlin Hiland had a player move in from the adjacent town for basketball and was a major factor in them winning back to back state titles.

Again, I wasn't trashing Alter....or any private. It's been hashed out enough over the years. Anyone who has every seen a small town team make it to the state tourney knows why I'm asking. Those girls grew up together, hang out together on the weekends and live, breathe and die basketball all season with each other....before, during and after school. Their parents are friends....road-trip and tailgate together before games, then likely head over to a local "establishment" or someone's basement after the games and celebrate the wins (and even some losses :) ) My point was that it just doesn't seem like it would be the same with a group of girls/families/parents who live 15,20 or 30 miles apart. The game ends, they all jump in their cars and head their separate ways. Again, not a crack on privates.....I know a lot of kids who went to privates all over Ohio...I have no problem with it...that wasn't the point of my post at all.

Why do you automatically assume it's different for private schools? Do you know if the Alter girls grew up together? Spend weekends hanging out? Many, if not most, private schools are their own tight knit community. Families know each other, spend time together, volunteer together at the school, kids grow up together, etc... One big family like many public schools. We're not so different.
