I think dividing public and parochial schools in the tournament solves nothing....moving them up solves nothing also.....remember when Crestview and Ada sobbed like a couple of babies because they couldn’t compete with the likes of LCC and wanted them out of the league...total joke....I don’t see any team dominating in basketball....look at LCC...hell, Temple probably wants to schedule them now....look at the biggest team in the BVC...LB.....it goes in cycles most of the time...quit trying to fine tune it and let them play....and don’t even tell me the private’s have a big advantage after what has been happening at the public school level.

I also am in agreement with Rocketman on AAU.....this is the biggest money making scheme in HS and grade school basketball around....I am actually thinking about hitting my buddy Rocketman up and making some serious dough....and that is all these organizers think about....average weekend consists of this....I approach a athletic director and tell him that I would like the use of your gym floors for a weekend...aau organizer tells AD that he can have half the gate and all the concessions, plus aau man has AD draw up brackets in age groups...usually this event will draw 50-60 teams at $260-$300 a pop...figure it out what this guy is bringing in each weekend...

aau and the likes have started and will kill high school athletics...guys like Quincy Simpson love it...not criticizing him, but now since he has a head coaching position it is giving him a distinct advantage....recruiting doesn’t just happen in private schools..it is also a pipeline for college coaches as during their season it is hard to scout players whereas in the summer they can view multiple players at one sight..

As far as exciting basketball, I think that with the current numbers of players playing this game, it is a thing of the past....officiating plays a minor role in exciting games....if I am a coach in today’s HS basketball, I would play good hard nosed defense, take care of the ball which in turn limits the possessions.....with some talent you would be in most of your games........and, you would win....and believe me when I say.....I would take a win in a boring game over a run and gun exciting loss any day ..and if you are a good coach, that is how you look at it...winning ugly isn’t so bad....I missed some points, but I think I touched on some of the better things!!!!

Jerry Snodgrass answers tweets sent to him. He also invited a guy who tweeted him to come to Columbus and meet with him.

I’ve found that guys like Rocketman would rather take snarky pot shots than actually try to constructively solve problems.

Parents and society in general have de-emphasized HS sports.

This, in my opinion, is just a small fraction of it. We want to look at attendance and start pointing fingers at the OHSAA, but do they really deserve 100% of the blame? Let's face it. Society is just different than it was 10, 15, 20, 30, 50 years ago. You went to the state tournament because there was literally nothing else to do. It was THE thing to do. You suffered from FOMO (fear of missing out) just like these teenage kids do with the weekend party. FFWD to today. HS sports in general, as well as many other businesses, suffer because people have so many options of what occupies their time. They don't go to the movies as much, for example. Instead of the state tournament, they choose other things to occupy their time.

To the people who are crying the most, it's on us. If the state tournament is so sacred, then it is on us to instill this tradition in the younger crowd. We let the tradition fade, and we blame others. "Ticket prices are too high!" Then we go out and spend 'X' amount on our vices. We make excuses, and our kids learn to make excuses as well. OHSAA is not to blame. It's the man in the mirror...

Oh trust me ‘boy we’ve tried in the past....over the years you’ve not been a fan of the RC, that’s obvious. I can understand it. It’s not for everyone....we question higher authority or what they perceive is... the OHSAA is a good ol’ boys network.....they have absolutely no use for anyone who doesn’t agree with their methods...they believe they are right/correct, others believe otherwise....you say “tow may tow, I say ta maw tow”......we can agree to disagree in America......Everyone who’s been with the RC for any number of years knows that I’m not a fan of the OHSAA....

For everyone complaining about D3 and D4 and the publc vs private debate.....you do realize that Crestview and Hiland just finished 1-2 in D4 right? OG has 3 state titles in the past 15 years....and would have maybe had 2 more if not for some guy named Lebron. Lima Senior won it in 2016. Lincolnview has titles. Archbold, Wheelersburg, etc. The only time people complain are when privates when several in a row or multiple divisions in the same year.

Lima Sr didn't win one and LV just has 1. That said .....
I don't think it's a public vs private to be honest. It may need to be that to be more fair ultimately, but it's really a clean public vs AAU assembled team.
I'd like to see an open division or two open divisions ... no holds barred.

Great idea! Have an OPEN Division. No real regulations. Do what ya want. No holds barred. Let all the AAU type coaches do their own thing! Level playing field! Sanctioned AAU type of tournament! Big time wannabe, win at all cost coaches versus their own!

Exactly like I said......”Run what you brung”.......the good old NASCAR boys would soup up a junker so that it appears unassuming from the outside but a corvette under the hood......AAU coaches do the same....

Now that we have this solved for Jerry and the rest, we’ll see what happens

Nothing will change....to much work to figure it out and OHSAA thinks things are running smoothly...I seriously think that when it finally does occur that something is wrong, it will be to late to correct.....omg, I canning believe how much things have changed in the last 15 years!!!!

Yep if ya can't coach em up, recruit em up! Taking time and all the work that goes into building a solid program is only for "suckers" Big time wannabe coaches don't have the time or work ethic to do that.

Any idea what the contract value is that the OHSAA signed with Spectrum to air the state tourney games...football/basketball? Perhaps the state makes more off the TV rights than the would off ticket sales? Or its a negligible difference & they don't really care if 9K or 15K show up to a game??

FYI, the wrestling tournament attendance has steadily increased and this year the finals was close to a sellout..... The problem started 15 to 20 years ago with the proliferation of AAU. The OHSAA was ill prepared for this new phenomenon and now that the cows are out of the barn they have no way of getting those "cattle dogs" to herd them back....... I have no interest and watching a bunch of thugs in D3 and D4 play against the Kalida and coldwater's of the world....The OHSAA allowed that to happen and ye shall reap what you sow....

More hyperbole from Rocketma'am. You couldn't be more than, oh, about 7,000 from being factual. :furious:

https://ohsaa.org/Sp...nament-Coverage

Attendance for session five was 12,195, bringing the tournament's total attendance to 54,797.

Rocketma'am not letting facts stand in the way of furthering his agenda since 2008.

It is certainly a different animal these days. I have been going to the State Tourn. for 50 years. The prices and venue have very little to do with dropping attendance. 50 years ago the arena was filled up with coaches, athletic directors, and school administrators. The general public could not even get in unless you were with a team playing. Today, hardly any school officials attend other than coaches. I am not in favor of moving the tournament back to St. John's Arena. The Schott is just fine, better parking, nicer arena, suites, just all round better. Just like I can't forget when John Cooper coached OSU football, I remember having to deal with rotten scalpers to get into St. John's. I agree, the glorified AAU teams playing mainly in D3 and bringing 75 fans to their games, along with the rough play, have ruined HS basketball. The public schools don't even bring as many fans as they used to. Berlin Hiland had a very disappointing crowd. St. Henry, Crestview, Olentangy Liberty, Sheridan, Columbus South, Trotwood all brought nice crowds. Parents and society in general have de-emphasized HS sports. Lots of parents push their kids into sporting activities at a very young age and the kids become burned out by the time they get to HS, or they quit because daddy can't control their playing time anymore. It is a lot easier to quit that to compete, and parents are promoting that. I don't have an answer how this can be turned around, because there is an ever increasing number of real crazy and mentally ill people out there these days.

If Rocketma'am would ever be afforded an audience with Jerry Snodgrass, he would hear THIS directly from his mouth. Most schools have moved away from allowing staff from taking Thursday and Friday as "professional days." Let along, paying for the days "off" or buying the tickets......all of which was commonplace 10-20 years ago, The "Golden Goose" is dead. Society changed while we were in chat rooms, it went to Twatter, Snackchat, and FakeBook........Most folks just don't care any longer to attend the games when they can watch, casually, with next to no expenses/hassles. The OHSAA is recouping most of the lost ticket sales in t.v. money, so it's basically a wash for them, but it IS a bad look to play in an arena that's 1/3 full.

1. Attendance from the “professionals” is the same as 20-30 years ago. It’s the school crowd and casual fans that have suffered. I will guarantee that revenue is down even including Spectrum. Hell for all we know the OHSAA might be paying them! We can agree to disagree and we’ve pretty much allowed idiots such as yourself to express their opinions without fail here on the RC since 2005......thanks

Your loss. Last year Marion Local and ‘a bunch of thugs’ (your term for a private school full of black kids) put on one of the best finals games ever. Sorta glad you weren’t there to pollute the atmosphere!

No where was “private” nor “black” mentioned in my post....you’ve certainly been a critic of the RC and myself since you joined....I admit to not being a fan of Snarky Snodds and the OHSAA....but we’ve given you and others the ability to post your opinions, many/all of which I disagree.....I do appreciate your following the RC and your continued support....thanks zoooooom

Can you please define your use of the term "thugs"? Thanks.

I don't no about Rocketman, but thugs to me would mean undisciplined white or black players jumping schools to play for the best team available that meets their needs......not home grown and very little allegiance to community or fans!!!!!

Thugs do not transfer because of academics that a school offers!!!

IF you say it, it must be true!? :nerd:

Attendance by "professionals" (Supes/Principals/AD's/Coaches/Staffs) is NOWHERE NEAR what it once was. You can't actually believe the crap that you've typed! None of your minions on here will call you on your bullchit, but I will. Anyone that has been in attendance over the past 40 years, as I have, and as many others (some on here) have, knows that your claim simply isn't the case. Attendance is down 4-5 THOUSAND per game from just a decade ago....I took the 2009 Kalida/Lutheran (thugs) East Thursday morning Semi of 10,444 as example. Ada/Oak Hill was Game 2 @ 11,440. This year's FRIDAY " early session" attendance was 11,327, TOTAL. So, if you're slant is to be believed, you'd have each participating school selling 2,000 LESS tickets than 10 years ago. PULL-EEEEZZE, just stop.

I'd tend to agree that revenue is down, those numbers are easy enough (even for you) to look up, but that wasn't really the part of my case, as I pretty much stated that IN my post.

I've got your "idiot," hangin'. But whatever makes a small little man like you feel good, roll with it.
