Are you sure ? Won 4 regular season B1G Championships and 3 B1G tourney Championships in 7 years. Ryan has 3 regular season titles and only 2 tourney championships in 10 years. In valuing championships Matta has more titles of both in less time.

Tom Izzo is by far the best big ten coach currently. Matta can recruit ,but Izzo's teams year after year get better as the season progresses. No exception again this year.

I agree with you on Izzo. My point was to disprove that Thad Matta wastes talent that he brings in. Without a doubt Izzo gets the most out of his team. If there was a most improved team award it would go to MSU. From the Carrier Classic this team has improved greatly.

Little early to make the call on Crean yet although he has some great talent he is bringing in...let's see what he does with it.

I can agree with VIc on this. Matta could have made a statement in being in this discussion if this year ends up turning around, but OSU has not done well as of late,and better coaches seem just be able to get teams to play better as the season wears on.

How many times do we see forced shots from Buford? And then Thomas does the old double pump shot on Sunday. This team better turn it around quickly. No evidence of that happening currently. At Northwestern will not be easy.

Indian gets a nice win at home against Mich. St. If Crean can keep them motivated on the road. The Big Ten tournament will be pretty competative. and the refs didn't get in the way of the game last night Ohio State is going to have their work cut out to win that.

Pretty bad? I would say the guy has done an exceptional job so far. He has definitely turned this program around. I would certainly put him in the top 3 at least maybe 2nd best coach in the big ten. Ill agree Tom Izzo is by far the best, but to say Matta is pretty bad is absurd.

By the way coaches don't take bad shots in games, players do.

Matta has won at least 20 games every season of his college coaching career. Did he have McDonald's All-Americans at Butler? Xavier? His first two years at Ohio State? The guy can coach, and to argue otherwise is ludicrous. His "system" may not be the best, but it has led to a NC game appearance (that would have been a championship if not for a historic Florida team), and the overall most dominant team in America (last season). I'd say that is pretty incredible.

Just goes to show how difficult it is to make it to the Final Four and/or win a national championship. We all do realize they are 24-6 this year with 11 underclassmen, right?!?!

To answer the question, though, I think the best coach in the conference is a tossup between Tom Izzo and Bo Ryan.

Izzo, because of consistency and the amount of Final Fours to which he has led the Spartans.
Ryan, because of consistency while doing it with underrated, no-name players. The guy just wins, period.
