In my opinion, it is a shame that Coach Smith has not been around to coach this group of girls that has been at OG over the past 2 years. I feel that if Coach Smith had not been shafted she could have had this group to back-to-back regional appearances with maybe a trip or two to Columbus.

It's too bad for the girls. They missed a great opportunity.

These girls play harder than any of Smith's teams ,so don't think it would've happened.

back to back regionals and a trip or two to state?? Can we be a little more realistic please??? This is a slap in the face of the current coach and players. Nobody knows how the team would have been with Coach Smith, and no one will ever know because this time has passed. Let the kids be kids and play their sports. Going to state isn't and easy thing.

At least one of the posse members has their daughter

The change in coaches probably didn't go as planned

Did OG make any adjustments the second time they played LB? The first LB victory was because OG played "bad" and LB won by 19. The second game LB played bad and won by 14. Which coach would have adjusted their game plan better to beat LB?

The game was a 6 point game the entire second half....right down til 1:30 to go. LB pulled away with FT's at the end.

Charlie, I get that. But in discussing if OG misses Lori smith, who would you rather have formulating a game plan come tournament time against a team that beat you handily in the regular season?

So if your CYO team goes to state, does the firetrucks bring them back into town? Do you have pep rallies???

Stewart, I bet it was a long winter for you, since you had you wait until district finals to finally have something bad to say about the OG Girls program. They had a great season at 22-3. Coach Yant has the program headed in the right direction. They play hard nose defense and push the ball up the floor. These girls were great to watch the last 2 years and it was impressive to witness their vast improvement.

funny you should mention that......a few years ago we were in Ottawa and we were sitting in the living room
of a friend's house when the fire whistles started going off over in Glandorf....a few minutes later the
Glandorf firetrucks drove by followed by a procession of cars headed to the Bombshelter......yep, you guessed
it....the Glandorf girls CYO team had returned home from state....RM

Stewart, OG should have had 4 or 5 State Championships during coach Smith's tenure with all of the talent, height and athletes she had to work with. During her time she had 3 to 4 - 6' plus girls on every team, 2 Division I players on the same team for 2 season's and a State Championship track team among her tenure.
If coach Yant ever gets that many athletes, height and DI basketball talent, OG will be the UCONN of Ohio High School Girls basketball.

Lol....good one.....4 or 5 state championships???? You mean like Regina or Africentric.....oh wait, neither of those two even had that many during that time same span...and they both recruited from populations in the millions.

As for the 6' girls. I would guess that the total number of girls who were 6'+ during Coach Smith's tenure was more like 3 or 4 total....not 3 or 4 per team.

I'll admit OG has had some talented teams in the past....but your numbers and expectations are/were just a little bit off.....lol

With coach Smith, OG went through 11 years of lost opportunities. Coach Yant has had 2 excellent seasons. The first season was to teach the girls the game of basketball and how it is supposed to be played. This year, his 2nd season he has his team knocking on the door against some of the best basketball programs in Northwest Ohio. Losing to Bath by a couple points and twice to Liberty Benton and beating Archbold. They won against every other team on their schedule. If coach Smith would have had this undersized group they would have finished around 10-13. A zone defense and her half court offense would not have been very complimentary to the strengths of this team. Fortunately, Coach Yant understands the talent he has and coaches them to the best of THEIR abilities.
