Great game by two great teams! This Kenton fan also became a Bryan fan this evening. Congrats on a great season and everyone will now have nothing but respect for your program. For those that don't know, Kenton scores the go ahead TD with 21 seconds left to win 46-43. What a game!!!

What a game. This one goes to the top of my "all time best HS game" list Gonna take a lot to bump this one out of the top spot.

The stat that sticks out in my mind was Sherman threw 78 passes!..78 passes? damn....that is a lot of throws. Should not surprise me but even with the O Kenton runs that seems like a lot to me...

For those at the game, was the venue large enough to accommodate all the fans that attended? Standing room only?

Here's a few stats to show how great a HS game this was:

1. Both teams combined for 1,128 yards of total offense, 163 plays from scrimmage, and 114 pass attempts.

2. Grant Sherman completed 56 of 78 passes for 486 yards and 5 TDs with an INT. Those 56 pass completions broke his own single-game NATIONAL record of 47 completions set last year against Shawnee.

3. Those 78 attempts rank THIRD nationally.

4. Justin Sawmiller had 24 receptions for 165 yards and 2 TDs and a 2 pt conversion. As good as those 24 receptions were, it is tied for only 5th nationally. The record of 32 receptions was set by Larry Bennett of Mogadore vs. Hudson all the way back in 1942.

Just as I thought, Donnell was big enough to hold the game. Both stands were packed, but there was plenty of room to stand in the NW and SE corners.

The Marion Local - DSJ state semifinal in 2000, also at Donnell, is still the greatest HS game I've ever seen. But this gave it a serious run for its money.

Amazing....I was at the game and had no idea Sherman had thrown that many passes until I heard it later last night. I would say at least 25 of the 78 passes were screen passes thrown behind the line to a wideout. Bryan did a pretty good job of figuring it out....so then Kenton started using a middle screen and got big yardage 4 or 5 times in the second half on that play. Almost all of Bryan's LB's and DB's went both ways...and they lost one to an injury. It just looked like as the game went on they wore down just enough that Kenton started getting some big plays behind them....which they didn't get at all in the first half. You'd never think in a HS game that scoring with 1:20 to go in the game was leaving the other team too much time....but that's exactly what happened. You just had a feeling that Kenton was going to score....even with so little time left on the clock. Amazing game. Good luck next week to the 'Cats.

Great game. There was more room in the stands. I was wondering at the time what would've happened with Bryan having 1st and goal from the one, if they would've taken a knee and not attempted to score on first and second down to run more time off the clock. Of course you always risk not getting into the endzone at all or fumbling. But the real reason is that Kenton still had 2 timeouts and probably would've used them. Bottom line is, they just couldn't stop Kenton's offense. Both teams left it all on the field. You can't ask for any more than that. Again, it was a great high school football game.

We were discussing that exact same thing....and as you said, the two timeouts probably kept them from doing that....although on the TD, the clock was running and Bryan snapped it with :17 left on the play clock. Kind of surprised they didn't at least take that much extra time off the clock.

Turns out Bryan needed more time to try to score again!

This was the BEST HS football game that I have ever seen. Bryan's speed was outstanding. Not a fan of Kenton refusing to punt, but that's what we do. Sat beside a certain team from NW Ohio that Bryan had knocked out, and had to listen about how Kenton was overrated and how Bryan would show Kenton how to play football. Ooooooops.
