With pitchers and catchers able to start Monday and basketball regular season still on for another week plus tournaments. Should the season be backed up a week or two? Alot of kids can't do both sports at the same time. Does soccer and football regular seasons end before basketball practices begin?

I think that it should start right about now unless they would make summer baseball last longer and move soccer ahead as well and you cant really do that....simply because to have a successful baseball program you need to have summer programs as well and summer ball already runs into soccer season...Forgot early Lester B Happy V-day to you!! wink.gif

You'll be proud of our young people in the classroom, in the community, and most especially in 310 days in Ann Arbor, Michigan on the football field. - Jim Tressel

I'm talking about only high school programs, If it started a little later the only thing it would affect would be the teams that go far into tourney. That would make them start ACME later or play thier real young kids first part of schedule.

I think it is good were it is...you need alot of time to get your arm in shape for the regular season especially in high school where teams dont have 6-7 pitchers they can throw..some of the kids dont touch a baseball much and you never will gain arm strength or endurance..It just hurts when sports run into each other but at small schools most kids play 2-3 sport and that will happen...soccer runs right into basketball conditioning...in soccer you dont have to go to b-ball conditioning because thats when the soccer tourny is going on at least from my school..

That's my point Baseball regular season starts even before basketball regular season is over. At least soccer only runs into basketball conditioning program.

I consider pitchers and catchers reporting the same as conditioning for basketball. Pitchers need time to get their arms in shape, since a lot of the early games will be played in cold weather. An out of shape arm in cold weather is not good on the elbow or shoulder.

It's good for non-basketball players...but you all know Ohio weather...the season might as well be pushed back because the earlier games will be postponed until then anyhow...

I don't think it starts too early. It takes time to get young arms in proper shape. If you rush them you could cause more harm than good. I will agree that a lot of the games at the start of the season get pushed back but if you start the season any later most shcools will be out for summer break before the season/tournamnet is over.

I am ready for some baseball!! Don't get me wrong, I love basketball, but I'm ready for baseball - just not ready for the cold.

i think if you stay away from league games early and put pitchers on strict pitching counts you can have your players ready for league games and the tournament...it may cost your team early but in the long run you will have a good look at many pitchers and keep everyone healthy with a good live arm when you need it most...

Flounder, do you know why I have "warn 0%" in my posts? Did I do something wrong?

Charlie, that is there to let you know if you are acting inappropriately. If you post something that Rocket thinks is unacceptable your warn percentage will increase.

So, did I do something inappropriate? If so, what? If not, why do I have this and no one else does?

Hey Chuck, everybody sees that warning % under their own posts. I can not see your warning on your posts. You can not see mine under my posts. Its something so that you and Rocketman know when you are treading on thin ice. 0% is a good thing. I presume one only has to worry if that percentage goes up. If your % does go up you will probably know why or the mods will let you know.

Thanks - as you can tell, I'm a newbie on the corner! Just don't want to tick anybody off so soon.
