So I don't play tennis or know enough about it, but just from reading this article. I find it amusing.
Really women grunting is annoying....
WIMBLEDON, England -- The WTA says it is working with Grand Slam tournaments and the International Tennis Federation to "drive excessive grunting" out of tennis.
In a statement, the women's professional tour says it is developing a "sport-wide plan" to keep future players from grunting by educating them and instituting rule changes.
The WTA had said in January it was looking at ways to deter players from grunting, noting then that "some fans find it bothersome."

Yes, they grunt obnoxiously loud. Something about it allows them to channel more energy through the shot. If you heard it, you would want it banned too.

google a Maria Sharipova match and you'll see what it's about. I'd even call her's more like shrieking or screaming than grunting. It's really not necessary.

Wait they actually shriek? I just saw that they are actually going to have a decible reading hand held device at the matches.
So they will be able to still make a noise just not shriek. Because the fans find it annoying. So tennis fans must not be NASCAR fans.

I have taken to recording their audio from their matches and just playing it in place of the "Whale Sounds" CD when I am going to sleep. Instead of having a pleasant sleep with whale sounds, I now sleep with visions of Maria Sharapova in my head. She can shriek and excessively grunt for me all she wants...
