Projected winners for this Regional meet

Shot Put-Porter from Lucas is a given. Overall a down event this year in this regional.

Discus-Too close to call -Schroeder from Grove, Boes from Pandora, Porter from Lucas and Utrup from Grove all have the ability to win this one. Overall a very weak field for a Regional meet as are most regionals in all divisions this year. Some D 11 meets are almost a joke. WE NEED QUALIFYING STANDARDS IN TRACK, IMO.

Pole Vault-Keller from Liberty Benton and Wolfe from Grove are the top two vaulters in the state in D 111 and will battle it out again this week. A very youthful event. ONLY 3 seniors competing. Weather could play havok with the results. Along with the High Jump this is the premier state level event at this regional. All four qualifiers should place high at the state meet.

High Jump-Reardon from St. Joe already owns the STATE record-a lock. Like the Pole Vault a very quality event this year, all four state qualifiers should place well at state, especially since a couple of the good ones are no longer competing at other regional meets.

Long Jump- Sleigh from Archbold and Shaw from Toledo Christian should go one-two here

4 x 800 relay- Bluffton and Mohawk should both go under 8:10 this week

110 Hurdles- Luginbuhl from Bluffton and Shaw from Toledo Christian go 1-2. Another very youthful event only 4 seniors in what is traditionally a senior dominated event.

100-Strup from Tinora- no one close to him at this meet

4 x 200- Archbold wins with Colonel Crawford and Tinora a step or two back

1600-Trusty from Mohawk and Fisher from Delta should both go under 4:23 Wise from Hopewell a distant 3rd

4 x 100 - With Strup anchoring Tinora should win this one, Colonel Crawford a close second with Toledo Christian and Archbold right there

400-Tobin from Fairview takes home the gold in this one with Rader from Cory Rawson a couple of steps back

300 Hurdles-Young from Archbold Shaw from Toledo Christian and Luginbuhl from Bluffton go 1-2-3

800-Herron from Bluffton in the upset of the meet

200 - Strup from Tinora easily- a sweep for the Ayersville District

3200-Trusty and Fisher again battle it out here with someone going 9:40 or better if the weather cooperates

4 x 400-Bluffton and Archbold go 1-2

Overall meet winner will be Archbold followed by Bluffton

You have any idea how the rest of the field will play out for the 200? I saw Strup run last week and he can fly no doubt and barring anything short of amazing he should win again this week, I will be interested to see who finishes 2,3,4 and advances to state though.

I believe I stated in my original post that the four qualifiers from the Ayersville district should advance to the state meet should they all still run. Doubtful if Young can pull it off at this level doing the 300 hurdles and coming back in the 200. This could leave one spot open for another district runner.

Oh sorry I believe that I misread it and didn't fully understand what you meant by the sweep from the ayersville district, my apologies.

Lucas is not in this regional.....so Porter will not be in the discus or shot.

Someone had better look at the regional listings. Lucas is in this Regional, a change from last year I might add.

I think Colonel Crawford may have something to say about who wins the regional boys team title this year.

No doubt Col. Crawford has a lot of athletes in the regional meet but most are not front runners in their events and their district events that they qualified in were extremely weak so it is difficult to guage if they have the potential to raise their level of performance to meet the competition they will have at a bigger meet. They will score in the mid 50's if they have great days and that would be max point potential, they will have a couple of relays make it to the state meet and possibly a couple of other events on the edge of getting there. that would be a 4th place finish at best, most notably in the 200,110 hurdles and pole vault. Archbold should be in the 70's with Bluffton being in the 60's. Of course all of this theorizing will soon be laid out on the track. Other teams that COULD be in the top tier would include Liberty Benton, Columbus Grove, Tinora and Toledo Christian. Margaretta,Gibsonburg and Seneca East all have large numbers as well but again they should not be at the top in very many of their events.

At least I appreciate someone giving feedback with some interest in track, it seems that very few will step up and even take the time to write their opinion on anything about this great sport.

Too bad the weather couldn't hold off and the meet had to be postponed til Friday.

A few notables, Jackie Leppelmeier reset her previous state record in the shot of 47-5 with a 48-6 (someone said 48-8 1/2?) She's ridiculous!
-Archbold and Liberty Center girls have VERY GOOD 4x800 squads. They are definitely in the hunt for a state title in the the 3200 meter relay
-Trusty had 1:57.97 in the opening leg of the 4x800. Mohawk looked to have won the event, as it had a 50 meter lead throughout the race but Matt Herron had a monster last leg of 1:57 to outkick Kyle Parker in the last 100. It was definitely a great race and both teams will perform well next week at state. Unofficially Bluffton was 8:08 and Mohawk was 8:09.
How about Calvert finishing fourth at districts last week, finishing fourth yesterday and qualifying for the first time in over a decade?! Definitely was not expecting that.

Can't wait for Friday. Awaiting a great 1600 and 3200 between Fisher and Trusty! Also can't wait to see Strup in action this year!

The weather was a downer to the meet for all team's i'm sure, but whew watching that 4X800, that and the 4X400 are crazy races. Bluffton definitely showed they wanted to win that race! Mohawk displayed and excellent performance to and is not over looked by any means!

Best race or the best event? Best race was the 1600 but the best event was the pole vault with three over 14-8" never happened before at this level-could again next year for sure, maybe even higher. IN the girls the best race was the 100 meter hurdles.Again the pole vault should have been but with the cold comes lower heights. Good meet for the most part considering how cold it was for this time of year. Good luck to all the state qualifying athletes.

Projected winners for this Regional meet

Shot Put-Porter from Lucas is a given. Overall a down event this year in this regional. --- Right, he had to step up in the finals but he did, winning by over 2 feet.

--- Didn't give a definitive answer on this one but you mentioned in your choices, the actual winner.

--- Wolfe won on fewer missed attempts but I was very surprised with Orewiler from Colonel Crawford. He stepped up big time.

High Jump-Reardon from St. Joe already owns the STATE record-a lock. Like the Pole Vault a very quality event this year, all four state qualifiers should place well at state, especially since a couple of the good ones are no longer competing at other regional meets. ---- Reardon only hit 6-6, it was enough to win but he can't slip up like he did on Friday night. He should win though.

Long Jump- Sleigh from Archbold and Shaw from Toledo Christian should go one-two here -- Called it. Great job. Reardon was third but jumped the same distance as Shaw.

4 x 800 relay- Bluffton and Mohawk should both go under 8:10 this week --- Correct. Bluffton was 8:08 and Mohawk 8:09. Mohawk can go much faster though and they will on Friday. Craig Parker split 2:03 in the 4x800 but was 1:59 in the open.

110 Hurdles- Luginbuhl from Bluffton and Shaw from Toledo Christian go 1-2. Another very youthful event only 4 seniors in what is traditionally a senior dominated event. --- Luginbuhl won this pretty easily. I can't remember off the top of my head who was second.

100-Strup from Tinora- no one close to him at this meet -- No body came close at all. 10.97 FAT. Wow.

4 x 200- Archbold wins with Colonel Crawford and Tinora a step or two back -- Colonel Crawford's anchor, Ashby Welsh, was too much for Archbold to hold off.

1600-Trusty from Mohawk and Fisher from Delta should both go under 4:23 Wise from Hopewell a distant 3rd --- Right on, both were WELL under 4:23. Trusty has the regional record now at 4:18.06. Those two could easily be 1-2 at the state meet on Saturday. Herron ran a nice PR at 4:27 for third.

4 x 100 - With Strup anchoring Tinora should win this one, Colonel Crawford a close second with Toledo Christian and Archbold right there --- Colonel Crawford won this relay as well. They can put together a nice sprint team

400-Tobin from Fairview takes home the gold in this one with Rader from Cory Rawson a couple of steps back --- Tobin was the only sub 50 in the race. Rader barely made it out. Schafer from Seneca East had a nice PR to take second. Tobin has a shot at winning it all next week in this event.

300 Hurdles-Young from Archbold Shaw from Toledo Christian and Luginbuhl from Bluffton go 1-2-3 --- Young pulled away from Luginbuhl with about 50 meters left to win this. I believe Shaw was fourth?

800-Herron from Bluffton in the upset of the meet --- You called this perfectly. What a race.

200 - Strup from Tinora easily- a sweep for the Ayersville District --- Strup cruised it in 22.16. He makes it look effortless.

3200-Trusty and Fisher again battle it out here with someone going 9:40 or better if the weather cooperates --- They both battled it out. Fisher wouldn't let Trusty p###### and had more left in the tank at the end. Wonder how well either of them can rebound from the 1600 next week?

4 x 400-Bluffton and Archbold go 1-2 --- Archbold smoked everyone in this race. 3:23.06 is scootin. They have a good shot to win it next weekend if they can perform like they did Friday night. Bluffton managed fourth.

Overall meet winner will be Archbold followed by Bluffton-- DING DING DING

Great predictions raise. I definitely wouldn't have been as correct as you. Hopefully the Tiffin Regional can represent quite well this weekend!

Best race was the girls 800 meters. Come-from-behind impressive performance by the runner from Archbold who crossed the line cleanly, then came the crash and burn of the next FIVE runners AT the finish line. Took a long time to sort that one out, but the officials got it correct with the 2nd place finisher being disqualified for lane obstruction and the next three moving up. A heartbreaker for the 2nd place finisher for sure because just ONE more step without falling down and she would be headed to Columbus with a fabulous time under her belt. What made it really special is when all the girls finally collected themselves, they helped each other up, hugged each other and shared a tear together for the experience they just lived through. THAT is why track and field is the greatest high school sport there is.

I completely agree, except I think it was the girl in 3rd who got disqualified. King from Archbold was out in front with 2:16. Chappell-Dick from Bluffton pulled ahead of the pack and got 2nd in 2:18, and the crash was in the 2:19 group. Erin Pavick tripped, I believe, and took out the Pettisville runner who had been leading the race before dropping back to fourth, and Toledo Christian's Michelle Wright. Pavick, unfortunately, got DQed, which must have been heartbreaking when the stakes are so high. She's just a sophomore, though, so she'll be back next year, carefully and with a vengeance!

Regardless, this was one of the fastest 800 heats in years at Tiffin. Technically 5 girls under 2:20. And, the boys had 5 under 2:00! The temperature was very nice for running, which may have contributed to impressive distance times.

How bout that point standing coming down to the last race with Bluffton up by half a point wow. And then Archbold running a 3:23.06 in there 4X400! Bluffton on the other hand sort of got shafted by LB having to completely fresh guys, and Herron being tired from 3 events. Overall very impressive meet by all teams, looking forward to the state meet!!
