I agree, About the record should not reflect on the coach. Just because the teams records are not good that does not mean the coach is not good. I think that she has stpped up and I work with people from Pandora and I have heard that the team really like her as a coach. They all respect what she has done and she is a very understanding and fair coach. The parents seen to have great respect for her and they back her 100% is what I have been told. She has my vote and I would hope that others would step out of the box and look at what she has done. my understanding is that she is very proud of her team win or lose. I was told also my a pandora person that the team is so respectful to Jill that when she tells them to go give a 100% that is all she can ask for and they do and she also tells them win or lose keep your heads up and I have been told that every game that not one head of the players and even Jill they all hold their head high and they are all smiling because they know they are good sports and gave 110%.....

I was told that Jill Quoted: I would be proud to take my team anywhere. they are a great bunch of kids! and all I ask is for 100% and if they give a 100% that is all she ask and she is proud of each and everyone of them.

Step out of the box and give a vote to a true coach that is there for the team not for the glory! Remember she stepped up to coach knowing that this would be a rebuilding year and it would be a long hard season but look there she is proud and smiling.

Here's to you coach Hovest you have my vote too! thumbup1.gif

clap.gif Here's a twist: In NW Ohio, how about Jill Hovest at Pandora-Gilboa?! Forget wins and losses for a moment and let's consider what she has done this year:

1. Saved the Program: Last year's coach took a different job. The school board hired a new coach who, at the last moment (a day or so before the season began) decided not to be the coach. So, with students pleading with her to save the program, Jill stepped up to the plate.

2. Building the Program: She started with about 9 players and has since added approximately 11 more. She has 4-5 girls, many freshman/sophomores, and few upper-classmen. Her starting goalie is wearing an arm cast and now is playing defense. Her players love & respect her.

3. Facing the Giants: Taking a JV team varsity! Her "JV level team" (this is not an insult, but a quote from Jill herself) has faced Ottoville, Liberty Benton, Kalida, and Temple so far and will play Riverdale to end their regular season.

Jill has stepped-up and done a very noble job. Best coach? In many ways -- YES ! clap.gif

Now on the negative side:

I watched a game tonight where the defenders got beat and pulled the strikers down with two hands on the shoulders as they were heading unimpeded towards the goal. Different defenders did this on at least 3 if not 4 occasions in the first half. Finally, one referee had to be informed by fans, players, and coaches that these were RED CARD violations. Afterwhich, he must have checked his rulebook and awarded a red card -- escorting the offender off of the field. As such, the coach of the team that was awarded the red card vehemently argued with the officials about the card. HE WAS WRONG! And to prove a point, later in the first half, he slipped an extra player onto the field and played with 11 until halftime, when the opposing fans made mention to the near sideline referee who insured that only 10 played the second half.

So were these players coached to pull the striker down from behind, or did all 3 or 4 of them just figure it out themselves in this one half of soccer?

With no names mentioned, this coach was nominated on this thread for "Coach of the Year." What a shame excl.gif

Only game I heard that had a red card was on the fort jennings player for deliberately fouling a player on a breakaway ... did I win a prize????

Where were you sitting at the game DISSENT I only saw a couple of people there from kalida and Ottoville watching this game ... Where were you sitting. I was the guy standing by the concession stand most of the game. Got too cold and sat in car last part of second half

Thumper:

Our big game is tomorrow with Ottoville. And yes, I was there, supporting my local PCL team who has lost some of their luster from the past. sad.gif

Mando = yes (based upon tonight's game) thumbdown.gif
Luthman = no, coach's a physical game, but does not encourage violent play. When have you seen one of his team's do this? popcorn.gif
