I have received news from a reliable source that an Elida basketball player will
not be making his sectional appearance this week for the Bulldogs......
now, I've been accused by many that I don't need to be bringing athlete's names
on sites such as these..........but you just have to wonder what the heck is going on
over there at EHS........I have tried to get an official response from the superintendent
but I'm afraid that I'm talking to a wall...........I will let the Elida folks take this one over as
they give their thoughts...........RM

Oh, but that's ok. He's had such an unfortunate childhood and upbringing. His opportunities have been limited because of the environment he was subjected to, and he has never had any real breaks in life. Plus, somewhere in his past he had family members that didn't care enough for him or give him the love and support he needed.
What's wrong with you people? Leave this poor victim of our society alone, for Pete's sake.

Cheating on a test is an academic issue, and should be handled the same way for all students.
In my opinion, if a student not in a sport receives a punishment, that is the way an athlete should be punished as well. Why should a kid that isn't in a sport get less punishment than an athlete? Why should an athlete get additional punishment?
As long as this doesn't affect eligibility, the athlete should be able to compete.
If the athlete receives a zero and it makes him academicly ineligble at the end of a grading period, so be it.

You've got it backwards, Hootie! The athletes get much less severe or delayed punishment because they are athletes. If you steal something... you are a THIEF! Period! You should be treated like a thief. If you cheat on a test... you are a CHEATER! Period! If you do both within the span of a couple of weeks and the (alleged) victims are your "friends" or classmates... you are a DIRT BAG! ... and no, cheating on a test is NOT an academic issue; it's a CHARACTER issue.
In most schools systems if you get caught cheating, your 3-day suspension begins the moment you get caught. If you get caught stealing, you get a free ride to the Juvi center for a pat down and a court date... and your suspension begins as soon as the cops take you out the door.
... unless of course there are extenuating circumstances such as I described in my previous post. Then you get a free pass!

Please try to stay focused. The initial post isn't about stealing, which to me is far worse and should involve police rather than the school system.
Cheating is an academic issue. It's pretty widespread, and even some of the "nicest" and "best character" kids cheat too. It's more like speeding in that many do it and few are caught.
If a school has a different procedure for athletes than its other students, then that's wrong. Whatever the established precedent is for cheating in that school is, then it should be followed. If the athletic dept. has a rule that students are ineligible during any punishment handed down from cheating, then that should be followed to a "T".
Don't bring up CHARACTER in regards to education. It's not the job of the schools to instill character. People already complain about how much teachers are paid, now we want them to build character in 40 minutes per day for 9 months with 30 kids per class when their parents couldn't do it with far more leverage and power over 18 years?

Sorry to burst your little public servant bubble there, Hootie. But yes, it IS their job.
Let me guess... You're under 25. Can't drive (or have never seen) a standard shift car. Don't pay any taxes other than sales taxes. Don't know how to tell east from west on a cloudy day, and think milk comes from the grocery store.
I feel for you, man...
