Good hard working kid who had a very nice high school career. One that 99 percent of us would have killed for. No idea what is next for him but we should be wishing him nothing but the best.

So I understand he can play right away at new school etc ....
My question is, how does a guy get out of a commitment to a service academy and is there a deadline to do so?

Your first 2 years at any military academy are up to you. The student can choose to leave at any time with no obligation. Prior to your junior year, you must sign the contract which then binds you to military service and means you can not leave with out serving time in the military. He evidently did not like the AFA very early in his career and chose to leave.

Typically, no student-athlete has to sit out a year if they transfer between NCAA divisions (1-2-3). If he transfers to another D1, then it's subject to an NCAA appeal.

I was referring to leaving a service academy but thanks. A lot of people aren't aware of that. ^^^
