I have been stopped for directions on at least 4 seperate occasions this fall. Each time it has been a fan and/or parent of a visiting team trying to find their way to the various playing fields. I realize that the high school is now land locked and other locations had to be made available but can't we do a better job of welcoming these visitors and making their stay as nice as possible. They are bringing some money into our community and it is just the right thing to do.
At the beginning of September I was going into the YMCA to work out and a family pulled in looking for the soccer field. They were coming from Wapak. I directed them back out to 65 to 224 to O-G road to the soccer field. (At least I hope my directions were clear). Yesterday I went to Glandorf park to enjoy the beautiful weather and I decided to walk through town. At the park I was again stopped by someone from the south (she didn't say what school she was from) looking for the soccer field. She said she was told to turn left (west) on 224. Go over the bridge. and turn right on to O-G road. She didn't see the road. I told her as best I could to head from the park to the Bombshelter and Glandorf Feed and make a left.
I continued on my walk through town out to said soccer field. Boy, O-G road is busy on a week day! Anyway once I got to the soccerfield and man on a motorcycle asked for directions to the high school football field. I directed him back to 224 and a left on 65. Told him he would see the high school if he stayed on 65. He would make a left on to Locust then a Left onto Glendale.
It was kind of fun getting to meet these people, but I thought of the frustration of trying to find something and circling around until you happen to see someone outside. Couldn't the villages put up some nice signs at a few key intersections to help find our numerous athletic venues. The intersection of 224 and 65 would be key. Perhaps also somewhere on 65 as you are coming from the north. Perhaps a sign at the intersection of 224 and O-G road alerting you to the fact that this is the way to O-G soccer and baseball fields. I'm happy to be an ambassador, but I need a title and shirt or something and 1 person can only do so much.

Sounds like my kind of plan. No cost to the taxpayers and a community service. biggrin.gif

I know what you mean, went to New Knoxville Saturday to watch soccer. Went to the school and nobody was around. Thank God it's a small town and the park wasn't to far off. You think the coaches would give the kids directions to the fields if there not at the schools. Maybe they do and I just never get them. sad.gif But it seems like every away game is always a challenge.
