Congratulations to Patrick Henry alumni Marc Krauss upon being called up to the Houston Astros. He will get his first major league start tomorrow against Chicago. He's replacing the injured outfielder Trevor Crowe who crashed into the right field wall and injured his shoulder. Marc was hitting 277 with nine homers and a team leading 35 RBIs through 65 games with the AAA Oklahoma City Red Hawks. Marc throws right handed but bats left handed The Astro's outfielders were all right handed batters, except for the injured Crowe who went both ways.

Congrats to Krauss! With how bad Houston he is if he starts out well enough he could have a shot to get some serious PT the rest of the season.

Also not sure, I may be forgetting someone, but I believe this is the first guy from the Defiance 6 county area to get to the majors as a position player. The rest that I know of(Billingsley, Niese, Scott Taylor, Ned Garver, Doug Bair, Bruce Berenyi, Chris Carpenter, Chad Reineke, Denny Stark) were all pitchers.

Your forgetting about outfielder Rich Reese from Deshler who played for the Minnesota Twins and later for the Detroit Tigers although that may be "before your time". I'm not sure what year but it was in the early 1960s. I graduated from PH in 71 with his first cousin.

Yeah, before my time. Wonder why no one really talks about him though?

And now that I look on baseball-reference I notice him and see Leipsic as home town. Not even sure how I overlooked that. Still, for someone to get to the bigs from this area as an everyday player is rare and I hope Marc has a nice long career.

Kraus is in the line up tonight. This will be his 43rd game appearance this year, hitting .200 with 4 HR and 13 RBI. On the Reds network tonight.
