Barry Sanders
Jim Brown
Earl Campbell
Eric Dickerson

Those 5 guys in that order head my all-time list

Barry Sanders for sure. Put him on those Dallas lines that Emmit Smith had and he shatters every record. Hell he would have anyway had he not retired so early.

I think the best way to judge a great back is to ask who you would want to grind it out and run the clock out. Campbell was just about unstopable for a five year span. So was Payton. Teams knew they were coming, but it didn't matter. I also wonder how Jim Brown would have fared against todays athletes. Players were smaller, slower, and whiter then

He must be playing some basketball in prison cause he's leading the team in "back door" opportunities

Jim Brown was the greatest running back of all time!! Any one of the aforementioned backs would tell you the same thing. Greatness at the position is measured with Jim Brown as the barometer. He was stronger than Campbell, as fast as Peyton, shifting as Sanders, AND NEVER MISSED A GAME. All the others mentioned excelled in the own genre, BUT BROWN HAD IT ALL!!

What does his personal life have to do with how good of running back he was????????

OJ's personal life.....kind of bad also?

Jim Brown, while an athletic marvel for his time, played against small, slow white guys with no weight training wearing Chuck Taylors! He is very similar to what Eddie George was in the modern era. (and I'm a Browns fan who loves Jim Brown)

Must also add that the personal life of person doese not determine how good or bad a back is. If that were the case, half of the people on the RC could be decent NFL backs.
