An interesting note, the last time that BOTH Patrick Henry and Liberty Center missed the playoffs was 1995. That means at least one of them made the playoffs and was considered a favorite for Region 18 (each team was regional champ 4 times in this era). They both made the playoffs in the same year 9 times. In fact, once the playoffs were expanded to 8 teams per region in 1999, both teams made the playoffs 8 years out of the 14. With the advent of the new D1, PH and LC are now in different divisions.

It is also interesting to look at their losses for the year.

PH and LC both lost to undefeated D4 Bryan and one loss D4 Wauseon. LC lost to PH. PH lost to 8-2 D5 Eastwood who's only losses were to undefeated D4 Genoa (who plays Bryan this week) and 9-1 D3 Clyde (who's only loss was to undefeated D3 Perkins).

Throw in OG also, who misses the playoffs for the first time in awhile. There's definitely a swing of powers in the NWOAL. Very tough conference. Bryan, who's been a traditional doormat, is strong now and Wauseon is also very good. Tough thing in that conference is you have PH, LC, Archbold, Wauseon and Bryan, and they all play each other in conference. You lose a couple of those games and you won't make the playoffs. Nothing against Northwood, but they lose to Ayersville and make the playoffs? They win all their TAAC games and end up 8-2. Region 20 has to be one of the better in the state.

Wow. I figured PH and LC's run there was a long one but I'm not sure why I didn't realize it was THAT long. Even outlasted Defiance and Napoleon's 1996-2009 run by a few years.

Well look on the bright side; PH basketball coach will have more time to get the basketball team to improve over last years season. :punk:

There was a great article in the Defiance paper on Wednesday on who made the playoffs and who didn't,the run down on who beat who and are in the playoffs amazes me . I think PH could have been good enough to win the region but not good enough to make the playoffs .

I think the top 7 teams are all potentially good enough to win the region, and all came up with big wins throughout the season to get them there. Northwood is a different story.

Question on PH though. Who used to be their 10th game? Having only 9 games pretty much kept them out of the playoffs. Was it a last minute drop? It just seems like more could have been done to fill that week. Even if you have to travel to one of about 4 different states.

Week 9 has been a revolving door for them for years, usually a long trip. Last year was Waynesfield-Goshen, 2011 was Dayton Belmont(who was scheduled for last year and backed out). 2009 and 2010 was Eastwood, who then moved to week 1. 2008 was Edon, who gave them no points. 2006 and 2007 was Lehman Catholic. 2004 and 2005 was Delphos Jefferson. 2003 was Jackson. 2002 was Riverside. That's as far back as Eitel goes easily but I know there was a couple of years in the 90s when they played 9 games.

The Dayton team was a 2 year deal and when they dropped ,they picked up waynesfield ,who canceled their trip to Henry county .i heard only teams that wanted to play were 3D2-3 schools , Vanlue had an open date but only wanted to play out JV with their Varsity ? I was wondering about how much it hurt not having a 10 game - PH didn't come out and play a very good game last week after a week off

If the difference was Vanlue vs. no game they were better off with no game.

Probably wouldn't have hurt to take a D 2-3 game though. Couldn't have really seen the region being THIS good when making the schedule though I guess.

Scheduling a Week 9 non-conference game has been a huge problem for quite a number of years dating back to previous ADs. It all results from the NWOAL either not expanding to an even number of teams or contracting to the same...May be time for Patrick Henry to be pro-active and resolve this dilemma for the league...May be time for Patrick Henry to explore the possibility of joining a different conference and to say farewell to the NWOAL for a myriad of reasons...Just imagine the interest a Week 1 game featuring Liberty Center and Patrick Henry would generate. Plus, who would want to give up the chance of winning the 50/50 raffle of this game?...Just some random thoughts early on a Saturday morning.

According to the OHSAA schedules website, PH and Paulding have a nonconference matchup for 2014 set for Week 5 I believe.

This is kind of off the subject, but would the Hernandez kid been eligible if Patrick Henry had made the play-offs.

Yes. For once he made the grade and PH doesn't make the playoffs.
